Reality.

From Dixon of Dock Green to Taggart to Jack Regan - none had the smack of reality according to my late Dad who was in the Police for nearly 30 years. Consequently, he refused to watch any.

There was briefly an exception to prove the rule, however - and as unlikely as that might seem today - this was in The Bill.

Step forward the archetypal DI - Frank Burnside as played by Chris Ellison and even he was spoiled as a character when he returned to the show
after many moons. These days - I simply avoid The Bill like the plague.

Today, for myself, unfortunately I have to look to the USA for quality and the brilliance of Chris Meloni makes me 'feel his feelings' in the horrors uncovered in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

If any types of show truly need to be 'real' then surely it is police and hospital dramas. Do not get me started on the latter!

You know how hospital patients fill in menus in advance, so that they have a nice choice of their preferences? I am sure that readers will be delighted to learn that Mole-in-the-know has discovered that an identical
system operates inside Nottingham gaol - and of course, if that is what is happening in one prison .... (Apparently, this is more convenient for the staff!)
A long stretch from bread and water, innit? Mmm. Nice rooms too!

Skin cancers: one more scare story.

You all know how we have been assailed by scientists and the media 'crying wolf' over many years in countless different areas - I have listed them on this Blog ad nauseam.

Our problem is that we never know when the scare story is actually going to be true. That was always the root problem in the cautionary tale about 'crying wolf'.

Well, we now have another to add to the list. Apparently, stories about the hosts of skin cancers which we have been breathlessly promised if we are exposed to the sun for more than eleven seconds, if not wearing sun tan lotion factor one hundred and fifty, are not quite true.

Apparently, the shedloads of eagerly anticipated deaths from skin cancer haven't actually made an appearance and many of the conditions described as 'cancerous' are in fact benign and should not even be given the name of 'cancer'.

In fact, to be quite honest, a large percentage of claims are a load of hokum.

Think what problems this causes where the genuine cases are concerned.

GCSEs in: road safety; money management; the benefit system; health and safety etc, etc are always being suggested by special interest groups.
NOW my favourite Frank Field - the government's Poverty Tsar and the only Labour member of the government - wants GCSEs in parenting!
Sorry Frank - it only seems like a good idea.
The 'solid gold' subjects of education are already being eroded to a massive extent by the Mickey Mouse subjects such as: photography, media studies, social studies, pop psychology etc, etc and etc.
What is CITIZENSHIP for if it is not to tackle social problems? - But then, that is just one more way of delivering a liberal left world view and pretending it is not propaganda.
Solutions? What me? - Sorry - the system is probably beyond repair.
This is part of the reason why I helped set up a Christian School a quarter of a century ago.

So - what is sin?

Those who know little of Christianity assume that 'sin' is the committing of 'wrong deeds' - and that is only a partial truth.

Attempting to get the point across is not easy and so this is how I explain it to schoolchildren.

Take three people who all share a similar thought:

a] Humphrey has it come into his mind the idea to hit Bertie with a baseball bat. Stops, thinks and rejects the idea as wrong.

b] Marlon has the same thought and strikes Bertie with the aforementioned piece of sporting equipment.

c] Percy shares the thought and rejects it because, although he really likes the idea, he is afraid of the consequences.

In these three we have something of an overview of Man.

Humphrey resists temptation. He cannot be blamed for the thought as he has rejected it.

Marlon has committed the sin and is clearly wrong.

Percy though, is an interesting case. From a God's eye view, he is just as bad as Marlon. He has embraced the sin; likes the sin; holds onto it and this makes him rotten inside. The only reason he has not committed the act is fear.

From Bertie's point of view, clearly the Percy outcome is better than the Marlon one - but not so with God, who sees us within and sees the real person not just the outward one.

The Yorks Post reported on August the 2nd that railwayman Rob Wedekind is to lose his job for taking robust action by ejecting a drunken passenger from his train.

MITK brings worrying news.

Last evening Mole-in-the-know struck paydirt!

He has dug out the story of a young Polish lady who had entered a relationship with a Turkish man in the locality.

When she determined that the relationship was over, she felt so threatened that she asked for and got police protection. On the same day that the police declared her to be safe - he attacked her on her way to work and stabbed her 11 times in the back.

Nothing too uncommon in all of this perhaps, but that is maybe the point!

The story has been expunged from local media reporting. Those in the know have searched high and low but the incident is seemingly unreported. WHY?

MITK's sources indicate that the lady has now fled the country and it seems unlikely that this man will ever face a court.

Far be it from me to extrapolate from this event and criticise Turkish people in general - that would be quite wrong.

BUT what was this guy doing here in the first place? And how gratifying to know that Cameron and Clegg, not to mention Brown before them, are suppporting the accession of Turkey to the EU with over 100 million Turks eligible to come here and either put British people out of work or draw benefits!

[A poll of young Turks last year indicated that around half wanted to come to the UK - and I do not mean to enjoy the benefits of tourism!]

Halal in Harrow.

A coconut for the London borough of Harrow which has decided to make all meat in schools halal.
I find it incredible that the same politically correct numpties who go beserk over killing vermin will happily endorse appalling cruelty in the slaughter of meat in order to accommodate the wishes of a minority.
Imagine how they would react if this were a Christian requirement!
Personally, I do not refuse to eat halal meat entirely but I will try pretty hard to avoid it.

Well. I can't claim that our local trio of wind turbines are quite as limp as the one in the photo but there was much excitement in the vicinity before we went on holiday as one was actually working!

Bradley Wernham - a one man crime wave - has finally been jailed. His five year sentence however, is a joke as he will be most unlucky if he serves even approaching two years.
Leaving that aside for the moment, let us congratulate 'hanging judge' Christopher Ball for his bravery in letting Wernham go free a short while ago after a million pounds of burglaries - none of which he is expected to give back to either victims or insurers - and a mere 688 crimes.
Still the toe-rag offends which finally results in the derisory prison term mentioned.
(Perhaps sending him down truly is a disaster.
He will now be mixing with criminals in 'a university of crime'! AND this when he is clearly so close to reform, too.)

'Wernham gave some indication of the level of his readiness to reform with a bragging message posted on his Facebook page last night.
The badly spelt message - sent six hours after he was jailed - read: 'Be out in 18 months or before.. Yeeh is guna ride this s**t'.'

So. What should have happened?
Well, his crimes have not been punished because of 'sentencing totality' which means an 'overview is taken' instead of 'cumulative sentencing'.
I do hope that nobody feels that these crimes which, individually would have carried about 2,000 years of imprisonment, have not received a 'let the punishment fit the crime' outcome.
What I would like to point out is that this low life has caused misery for THOUSANDS of people and the treatment he has received is nothing less than encouragement for others to act in similar, undeterred fashion.

He should have got fifteen years originally - and having come back - I would have made it 20.
He has forfeited all rights to share a society with decent people.

Pension at 66.

Oh dear. This affects me! I have long been planning for full retirement at 65 for years.

Still - bankers or no bankers - increased life expectancies combined with the falling numbers of workers in ratio to the greater numbers of pensioners has made this inevitable.

Lifetime council tenancies to end.

This is a toughie but unless you have about some twelve million dwellings available as social housing - which we do not have and never will - it is inevitable.

At one time in some cities they were family heirlooms!

There is no justifiable reason for ever giving permanent tenancies automatically although there are clearly cases where this would be reasonable.

Just a bit suspicious however, that these ideas are perhaps to make room for newly arrived immigrants who will have to take precedence over the local populations. If immigration is not controlled - and it isn't being ...

Casual atheists embrace Satan by default: the aggressive by choice!

So entrenched is the bile and hatred found in aggressive atheists that they would even remove comfort from weary travellers in hotel rooms by demanding that Gideon Bibles are taken away. This is not the main aim however, as they are so sold out to their master that they feel obliged to remove truth from before the eyes of the lonely - or even access to it.

So what are they so scared of if Christianity is just some ancient myth? Atheism and satanic support do go hand in hand ether directly or indirectly. Such is the hatred of Christ that these people show their hands by even stating that 'other religions' should have 'a throw'.
It is an old saying - and arguably a sound one - that 'Satan's greatest achievement is to have people not believe in him'!

Reading the first of the two links below, the sheer nastiness of the aggressive atheists comes out: the venomous hatred we see in the article gives clues to the point I'm making. They want Gideon's Bibles removed from hotels - because people might just find comfort in them - how terrified they are that the truth might be revealed - satanic? - Precisely so! The key to this is the point that they are quite prepared to use other religions: anything to dilute Christianity where their only danger lies.
