The European Economic Area - An Uncomfortable Truth For Europhiles!

'Three and a half million jobs to be lost' shriek the loony europhile fanatics whenever a sensible economics policy refers to withdrawal from the EU.
Right. Next time somebody makes this loopy claim to you, ask them if quitting the EU is the same as leaving The European Economic Area and there will be one of two responses:
The first (and the majority) will have no idea of what you are talking about.
The second group - those who actually know - should wilt before your very eyes! Leaving the EU does NOT mean leaving the EEA - and they KNOW this. Their reasons for being in the EU are utopian and not pragmatic.
To rub it in thoroughly - ask them precisely where jobs will be lost for a loyal member of the EEA!

The European Economic Area (EEA) was established on 1 January 1994 following an agreement between the member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Community, later the European Union (EU).[2] Specifically, it allows Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to participate in the EU's Internal Market without a conventional EU membership. In exchange, they are obliged to adopt all EU legislation related to the single market, except laws on agriculture and fisheries. One EFTA member, Switzerland, has not joined the EEA. (Wiki.)
Incidentally, we are too big and important a nation to have to follow the strictures on much smaller EU economies!
