Inflation.

Consumer Price Index data released yesterday showed that inflation slowed in January to 1.4% in France, down from 1.5%, and 1.9% in Germany, down from 2%, potentially putting greater pressure on the ECB to cut interest rates further.FT CityAM
Along with many EU neighbours, Spain tells lies about inflationary levels.
We just got back from Spain last night and the incredible mess that they are in in does not seem to be translating into any lower prices at all! Quite the contrary.
Take one example out of many - DOMTI. This is a shop for all those bits and pieces you need in every home.
The basic price for the majority of items has long been 60 cents or maybe a euro.
The day before yesterday we struggled to find anything under a whopping TWO euros! Consider that as a percentage increase!
The philosophy is the opposite of 'pile it high and sell it cheap.'
They clearly take the view that they could lose 40% of customers and would still be much better off. Not a great principle for the consumer!
Incidentally, Spain is claiming an annual inflation rate of 2.68%.
