Abortion Act “discriminates against disabled people”

http://christianconcern.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=bed173cc9adfcad1e0e442a35&id=21ad54a7cc&e=1cccfc6b93MP Fiona Bruce has highlighted the unjust discrimination against unborn disabled babies allowed by the Abortion Act 1967.

Mrs Bruce, who is Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Pro-Life Group, has drawn attention to the issue in an article for Catholic Universe.

She argues that the 1967 Act unjustly discriminates against disabled people, as abortion on the grounds of disability remains allowable up to birth, while ‘social terminations’ have a legal upper limit of 24 weeks.

Mrs Bruce observes that this has led to “an anomalous denial of the equality of disabled people”, as the difference in permissibility indicates that a disabled unborn baby is seen to be less worthy than a non-disabled unborn baby.  Christian Concern.
