I am fed up with apples sold in supermarkets. Decades ago,
Golden or Red Delicious were just about edible and Granny Smiths were superb. Today, it
is hard to find either which is not, either tasteless, or has more than a hint of
sourish swede turnip.
Then Gala appeared on the scene and was more or less edible.
Today, eighty per cent of the time they have all flavour missing. Pink Lady are far too expensive for a fairly ordinary apple.
Braeburns are a risk - varying from quite pleasant to
uneatable.
Fujis, which are a truly wonderful apple, are largely absent
- or off the scale expensive.
Why can I buy good apples in Spanish markets but not in
English supermarkets?
