You have
referenda in our country when there’s an important question to answer, when
important powers are being transferred to the European
Union.
But powers already have been transferred without a referendum in
the Single European Act, Maastricht Treaty, Consolidated Treaty, Nice Treaty and
Lisbon Treaty.
The Lisbon Treaty is a ‘self-amending’ Treaty, which means that
further powers can be transferred under that Treaty. There may not be another Treaty to vote
on.
