M1 Roadworks.

I recently drove some 280 miles along the M1 on a round trip to St Albans for a family function. What an advert that cart track is for British incompetence! Not far short of a hundred miles of that journey was areas claiming to be 'roadworks' with ridiculous 50mph limits.

Where there are genuinely 'narrow lanes' - fine. But what I saw were three and even FOUR lanes at countless points needing no restrictions at all. To add insult to injury - on the return journey, I only saw evidence of three people working anywhere along the entire stretch.
Whatever happened to John Major's 'Cones hotline' where you could complain about such idiocy?
The M1 is the main road of this whole nation and seemingly destined to be a car park forever. The delays and inefficiency must cost businesses millions every year. Traffic jams of vehicles not moving at all were frequently miles long!
