SIR –
As every exporter knows, the EU isn’t an open, free market right now, and never
has been. There is no such thing as the “single market”. Instead it has 50 or
more very different markets of 10 million people, each market protected by
language, local laws and culture. Getting success in Holland, say, is absolutely
no pointer to the road ahead to penetrate Germany, France or even Belgium.
There
is a naive view that after Brexit, the single market will be closed to us, and
even our children will never be able to export to the eurozone. The truth is
that it was never open in the first place, and exporters have had to do what
they always do: work hard to open a market and keep a presence.

betrayal of the electorate and will not be forgiven.
