Interesting Thought.

I was talking to an old friend yesterday about reform of The House of Lords. Although he wanted reform, he did point out the problems which would be created if peers were to be elected.
Peers would then be able to claim that, as elected members, they would be fully entitled to stymie the wishes of The House of Commons and would produce the levels of complexity and delay found in all other nations which possess two elected chambers.
This might be an unwanted side effect of removing cronyism from the system.
I am not entirely sure that I agree with the basic thinking - but, at least it is thinking!
Maybe it is just the cronyism which needs to be attacked - but a means would need to be found to ensure that the best people were placed in The Lords - ones who were capable of revising legislation for the benefit of the people.
Were such a system to exist, it would need to be largely apolitical.
