UKIP’S General Secretary targeted politician’s in the UK who have refused
to accept the Brexit referendum urging them to support the will of the British
people.
Jonathan Arnott MEP criticised politicians in the UK who “haven’t
accepted the result of the referendum” in a blistering
tirade.
The Ukip General Secretary insisted the UK could negotiate trade deals
with the European
Union but called for full support from all
MPs.
Speaking on Any
Questions? he said: “We of course can negotiate a trade
deal with the European Union, yes it may take time.
“The European Union at the moment is a little bit obsessed over the
French elections and the German elections.
“We can negotiate a good trade deal with the European
Union.
“What we must, must, must do, first though, is to make sure our
politicians who haven’t accepted the result of the referendum stop talking our
country down.
“Stop saying that we are not going to get a good
deal.”
The MEP then began an analogy to explain exactly why British politician’s
needed to get behind the Government to ensure Britain gets the best possible
deal from the EU.
He added: “If you are going out to try to buy a new car, if you bring
someone with you who tells you, ‘you are never going to get a single penny piece
off of the list price of that car’, what do you think is going to
happen?
“You’re going to find it much harder to negotiate that deal on the new
car.
“So please, the politicians on the Remain side, who lost in the
referendum, please do not talk our country down whilst we need to negotiate a
good deal with the European Union.”
The Lib Dems have repeatedly called for a referendum at the end of the
Brexit process to allow the people of Britain a vote on the final deal achieved
by the government.
The Ukip politician then rejected the idea that the UK would have to keep
its borders open for freedom of movement for a transition period to ensure the
UK get a good deal.
He said: “I don’t believe that should be necessary. The EU has various
trade deals with countries around the world.
“Only those in the European Economic Area is there any form of free
movement and even there, in some cases, for example in Liechtenstein there are
restrictions on that and in Switzerland there are moves towards
that.
“There’s only really two countries across the world that have got any
form of free movement deal with the European Union but there are dozens and
dozens of countries across the world which have trade
agreements.” Express.
