Test Failure.

England crawled back from the brink with a superb bowling display but which still left the remaining six batsmen a mountain to climb were victory to be achieved from the very jaws of defeat. More later.

Update. On the final day, England lost 6 wickets for just 58 runs to go 2 - 0 down in the series. So, what went wrong?
1) Having won the toss, Joe Root gave the Aussies first use of a fine batting strip and vainly hoped that his swing bowlers would be able to use the cloud cover. 'What a mistakea to makea!' - As undoubtedly would have been said on 'Allo, Allo'.
2) England's three strike bowlers were consistently short in length - and especially during the vital first 20 overs of the game. It was seriously poor from Anderson, Broad and Woakes. By the time they had adjusted lengths to the dizzy heights of 'barely adequate' - it was too late! (Ali was was a passenger in the bowling attack taking 0 - 99 in the match.)
3) When England batted in their first innings - they yielded wickets for fun with appalling techniques which had Geoff Boycott frothing at the mouth during his commentary spells.
By now the damage was done and a game which might still have been winnable - especially in the light of the brilliant bowling by Woakes and Anderson in the second innings - was clearly irretrievable, even if a few optimists had vainly dared to think otherwise.

Even Worse Than I Had Thought.
