Hands up who thinks that Labour left-winger Angela Rayner shares the political outlook of Thatcherite Tory Nadine Dorries?
That would be none of you, then. So why did Ms Rayner have to refer to the fact of her diametrically opposed views in the opening line of a tweet she has sent out wishing Ms Dorries a speedy recovery from coronavirus?
“Whilst I almost never agree with Nadine Dorries on anything politically, I do wish her a speedy recovery against (sic) this wretched #coronavirus,” declared Ms Rayner. What would have been wrong with an affectionate “Get well soon, Nadine”?
It may seem like a small point, but it is a telling one for it highlights what we might refer to as “identitarian tribalism” on the political Left.... DT.
