Hi, Pastor Lorenzo is facing a ten-year sentence in Cuba, just for attending a peaceful protest. His family has just been informed that his case goes to trial this week. Which means that we don’t have much time to put pressure on the authorities. Here’s what we’d like you to do. Send an email to the Cuban Ambassador. We want thousands of people to contact the embassy early this week, sending a message they can’t ignore. Help spread the word. Please could you forward this email to friends, to your small group, or perhaps share it on your church Facebook page, asking them to also send a message. Join us in a vigil this Tuesday 7 December. Please pray and light a candle wherever you are and share a picture of your candle on social media using the hashtags #SOSCuba #PatriaYVida #VivaCubaLibre #FreePastorLorenzo Pastor Lorenzo is being targeted because he’s a church leader This case is part of a long-standing campaign against him that goes back to 2009, when his home was confiscated because it was where his church met. The government wants to make an example of Pastor Lorenzo, to send a message to other pastors that any religious leader who speaks up for justice will regret it. But we want to make an example of Pastor Lorenzo, too. We want to show that when someone is punished unjustly, thousands will stand alongside him. Let’s send a message to all those facing discrimination, persecution and worse for their beliefs in Cuba – that they are not alone. Dave Head of Campaigns, CSW. |
