Aldi has said it’s committed to offering customers the lowest prices in 2022 as supermarkets gear up for a price war amid surging inflation.
The German discounter said managing household budgets would be a “top priority” for most families this year as they face a cost of living crisis driven by soaring energy bills and higher consumer prices.
The crisis promises to pit Britain’s supermarkets against each other in a battle to offer the best prices to shoppers. Tesco already matches the prices of hundreds of products to Aldi.
It came as Aldi hailed its “best ever” Christmas trading, with sales rising 0.4pc year on year in December. The company cited research from Kantar showing it was the “only major supermarket” to increase its sales last month. DT
