At 3 - 0 down in the Ashes series and with the prospects for that becoming 4 - 0 - England fought magnificently to steal an improbable draw. The spectacle remained alive right until the very last ball of the match with both Anderson and Broad keeping the Aussies at bay.
It was Anderson whose lower order batting saved the Cardiff test back in July 2009 - on that occasion he batted out 11.3 overs alongside the redoubtable Monty Panesar. Almost 13 years later he has repeated this incredible accomplishment with a different partner.
To be honest, the Aussie skipper, Cummins, had the match set up for the win but called his second innings declared six or eight overs too late. A fortuitous decision for the tourists!
