'Four out of ten victims of domestic violence are men, a report claimed yesterday.
But it added that men who complain of being attacked at home are often ignored by police who prefer to believe that a woman is the real victim.
The study comes at a time of complaints that men are treated unfairly by the justice system.'

When I was a magistrate, it was abundantly clear that this was indeed the case. In many domestic violence situations, the man was brought to court and the first part of the evidence would brazenly reveal that the man had been assaulted (which we were expected to ignore) and had then responded to that assault. The woman was never charged.

I would make two points, however. The first is that I truly doubt whether the figure of male victims is quite as high as 40%. Secondly, I suspect that in many cases the man is assaulted and the issue is that the male response is disproportionate.Even so, violence against men in marriage is common.

Liberal fiction.

It is quite astonishing how out of touch with reality is police/detective fiction in this country.

Almost all the literary heroes who go about solving crimes hold liberal attitudes bordering on the politically correct.

This is simply impossible because all such people are holding down very senior police positions following their brainwashing at Bramshill.

Those who actually do the job are seldom of a liberal persuasion - when you see what they have seen ....

The Archbishop of Canterbury has apparently awakened from his slumbers and gone on a rather limp attack against Stephen Hawkings' recent, atheistic pronouncements.
1.5 cheers for the wet fish prelate.

BBC subtle bias.

A report on the Beeb yesterday stated that in France there had been protests by those who opposed the deportations of 1,000+ Roma back to Rumania last month.
Fine. Factually accurate.
BUT then a comment was made that this had brought about 'widespread controversy'.
This second point represents 'biased reporting'. Although completely correct in what is said, it has effectively 'lied by omission'.
The overall impression was subtly made that there is currently an overwhelming majority of French people who disapproved of the expulsions when this is clearly NOT the case - indeed, polls indicate that the opposite is true.

This mirrors events in Arizona where the 'will of the people' - confirmed by a democratic vote - was sidelined by a liberal media which disapproved of potential 'illegals' having to provide 'proof of their legality.

DEFAMATION OF RELIGIONS AT THE UNITED NATIONS: a threat to religious liberty.

This year the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), linking 57 countries with majority or significant Muslim populations, will once again introduce the Defamation of Religions Resolution in the United Nations.
It allows governments the power to determine which religious views can and can't be expressed in their country, and it gives the state the right to punish those who express 'unacceptable' religious views as they see fit. So, in effect, it makes persecution legal.
It aims to criminalise words or actions deemed to be against a particular religion, especially Islam. It has the effect of providing international legitimacy for national laws that punish blasphemy or otherwise ban criticism of a religion. It is due to be voted on in the UN General Assembly at the end of this year.

Incredibly, many countries have backed this resolution in the past, but some are now changing their minds. This year, there is a real possibility it could be defeated. And you can help. Scotland's Assembly has got it wrong!

'Catchment zones'.

'Catchment zoning' has officially failed!
(Oh. You had never known that 'catchment zoning' existed in the first place?)
Well. It has been a system that has been trialled to ensure that children from poorer homes get more places in better schools.
This manipulation was doomed to fail - and it has.
It is virtually impossible to prevent wealthier parents moving into the catchment areas of the better state schools - and when they do live there - how can you possibly ship their kids out to a sink school?

Well then. Let us consider and see if there would have been a better system.

Revolutionary solution:

How about letting the children who would benefit most be chosen for the better schools - on merit rather than by postcode or parents' ability to move house?

Sounds fairer to me. Just one small problem of course, our leftwing friends who helped bring in such a meritocracy in the 1940s were soon champing at the bit to destroy the good thing that they had created.

They were called Grammar Schools!

UK 'relative poverty' is no poverty at all.

A letter in last night's Sheffield Star made the absurd claim that 10 million people are 'living below the poverty line'.
Utter bunkum!
I suspect that The Institute of Fiscal Studies has gone bonkers again! For the umpteenth time, I must explain that we do not have any 'absolute poverty' in the UK which is not self-inflicted or from people who have chosen themselves to live on the streets.
'Relative poverty' - what we are talking about here - is all about where YOU CHOOSE to draw the line, as some people in a society MUST always be poorer than others.
Such claims - they do not count as statistics - are inevitably arbitrary, used to create a manipulative, political agenda - and are usually wrongly based.

I am always able to establish what 'poverty' really is by asking Number 2 Son. He spent six months with a medical aid charity in Malawi.

Do NOT tell him that we have poverty in the UK - he will not believe you!

No room for God in Hawking's universe!

New theories in physics have 'abolished God' according to Steven Hawking.

Sorry pal. You may be much cleverer than me but you cannot abolish my experience of God. Just how arrogant can you get?

(It rather surprises me too that, as a scientist, you do not know the difference between a 'fact' and a 'theory'!)

Community sentences are a JOKE - the proof!

'Violent criminals on community service were secretly filmed smoking cannabis and playing computer games.
Others made a mockery of their 'punishment' by sitting around drinking tea, chatting, watching TV and reading newspapers rather than working to atone for their crimes.
Last night one of the architects of the Community Payback scheme - which the coalition wants to use increasingly as an alternative to prison - admitted it had become a 'holiday camp'.

BBC Director General Mark Thompson has admitted the corporation was guilty of a 'massive' Left-wing bias in the past.

The TV chief also admitted there had been a 'struggle' to achieve impartiality and that staff were ' mystified' by the early years of Margaret Thatcher's government.
But he claimed there was now 'much less overt tribalism' among the current crop of young journalists, and said in recent times the corporation was a 'broader church'.

I am truly fed up of artists who take the public for a ride. From Mondrian to Hirst from Picasso on a moody day (He also had good ones) to Emin, I am fed up of rubbish being presented as: avant-garde, groundbreaking, imaginative, life-affirming and worst of all - as ART!
There have been so many out there from the beginning of the 20th century - a large proportion of art today is nothing more than a scam or an excuse for lack of talent. Intellectual fraud.
