Opus Dei.

Corporal mortification is a built-in feature of the disproportionately influential Roman Catholic offshoot, Opus Dei, which many declare to be a dangerous cult.
This practice involves physical, self punishment - often of a severe nature.
In Spain, I have myself witnessed the practice taking place during Easter processions and could take you to a shop in Madrid where the accoutrements of these bizarre practices are purchasable for some ordinary Catholics who are already familiar with self-flagellation. All of this is most regrettable as Christ's sacrifice for us was final and complete. He paid the FULL price for our sin and all we have to do is to say 'yes' to Him.
Faith is the key
to Christianity and trying to emulate Christ's sufferings is as abhorrent as it is unnecessary.
