But NOT him!

"Likewise today, some Christians are content to merely exist until they die. They don't want to risk anything, to believe God, to grow or mature. They refuse to believe his Word, and have become hardened in their unbelief. Now they're living just to die."

David Wilkerson.

Freedom is running away from us.

"Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again."

Ronald Reagan.

Sickening.

Having cared for my Mum for the five and a half often very difficult years to the end of her life, I am especially disgusted by the actions of Elton John.
Apparently, he has cut off the 86 year old lady who bore him, who had lent him unwavering support for his entire, debauched life and has not spoken to her since she made a single remark (Mail) three years ago.
If this is true - as it seems to be - then his behaviour is utterly repugnant. If I had taken umbrage at every crass remark made by friends and family over my lifetime - quite possibly, I would have nobody to talk to at all.
It is not made any better when musically, I rate him as something of a nonentity.

Happier days?
My collection of many thousands of tracks contains no more than two by the very ordinary Reg Dwight - and one of those is a cover version!

My thanks to the reader who pointed out the desperate need for a coconut award!

'Domestic dogs, cats, hamsters or budgerigars should be rebranded as “companion animals” while owners should be known as “human carers”, they insist. Even terms such as wildlife are dismissed as insulting to the animals concerned – who should instead be known as “free-living”, the academics including an Oxford professor suggest.
The call comes from the editors of then Journal of Animal Ethics, a new academic publication devoted to the issue.
It is edited by the Revd Professor Andrew Linzey, a theologian and director of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, who once received an honorary degree from the Archbishop of Canterbury.'
Naturally, a LoonyTuneswatch coconut is wending its way its merry way to these saddos!
PS. Remind me. It's coming up the 1st of May not the 1st of April - isn't it?

Even I am speechless: gobsmacked indeed!

'Robert Mugabe has been invited to attend the beatification ceremony of Pope John Paul II this weekend, it emerged today.'

Sheffield Council Taxpayers RIPPED off. Look at their position on the list!

'Councils which are slashing frontline services have used at least £35million of taxpayers’ money to pay the wages of full-time union officials.

Figures released under Freedom of Information laws show at least 132 councils have paid for hundreds of union representatives, who provide no public service. Some are on more than £50,000 a year.'

RIP, David.

It is with great sadness that this Blog reports the death of Pastor Dave Wilkerson - he of Teen Challenge, 'The Cross and the Switchblade' and Times Square Church.
David died in a car crash in Texas this week.
If only all christians put as much into the spreading of the gospel as he did.
The only relief is to know that he is now with the Jesus he has loved for so many years.

At least Alastair Campbell was honest about it!

"We don't do God."

Tolstoy would have spotted the flaws in our current system!

"The more is given, the less the people will work for themselves - and the less they work the more their poverty will increase."

Somebody understood the workings of a leftist state!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

CS Lewis.

Miseries and misanthropists.

If there is something which some people enjoy; does not cause taxes to be raised; which does no harm to others; does not 'dumb society down' even further; is not illegal or immoral yet may not be too easy to understand from the outside - then so WHAT?
We are supposed to be a free society, aren't we. If you are a gricer or a twitcher, a supporter of Skegness Town FC or a kite-flying enthusiast - it is nobody else's business!
So, at the moment we have the petty-minded bleating about the royal wedding coverage; there are those who gripe whenever there is a sporting event on national TV; there are ones who attack the (admittedly horrible) Eurovision Song Contest. I do not care for olympic sports very much - but do you hear me rattling on about the costs of holding the event in the UK?
Because they do not like something they believe that nobody else should be allowed to follow that pursuit.
Letters Pages are full of these whiners. One should not really use these outlets for the petty and super trivial. We have a society sinking faster than the Titanic yet they seem unable to see beyond the ends of their noses.
Okay. Rant over!

Daily Mail Science: 'your brain takes a nap even when you're awake.'

Hardly news. I have met the politically correct!

Flight of faith: The Jesus Story.

This ITV programme had a great deal going for it and apart from one or two eccentricities - it was a reasonably honest attempt.

What was truly stomach-churning was the 'Jesus industry' which it showed, both on the secular and religious levels.
This was something which had struck me very strongly when I visited Jerusalem and The Holy Land some years ago.
The Church of The Holy Sepulchre - a later piece of guesswork as to location - is presented as the actual site of the crucifixion and as the genuine Joseph of Aramathea tomb when there is not even a shred of evidence as to their authenticity.
The Manger Church in Bethlehem; the 'marks left by Jesus's feet' on a particular rock at His ascension; the rock alongside the sea where He ate fish with His disciples post-resurrection et al.
Claptrap! Christianity is not about venerating: alleged locations; 'bits of the true cross'; 'fingernails of saints'; 'actual crowns of thorns'; shrouds; 'holy grails' or any other such nonsense,. These are perpetrated by conmen onto the gullible at worst, and, by purveyors of 'excitable over-enthusiasm' at best!
Christianity neither wants nor needs artificially concocted stimuli to faith, nor wild leaps of speculation which can serve no spiritual purpose.
Christianity is about a RELATIONSHIP with the crucified, now risen Saviour!

Exite-ing.

Don't forget to listen to 'Sweet Sounds on a Sunday' with the wonderful George T Moore on a Sunday morning from 7am (British time).
This is easily accessed online by going to:   http://www.exiteradio.com/
George sailing a straight course through life's challenges.
If you listen carefully after 7-30 - you may even catch the dulcet tones of yours truly giving the Gospel an airing for a couple of minutes!

Orissa needs prayer.

'Six recently baptised Christians were arrested in northern Orissa after Hindu activists accused them of converting to Christianity 'illegally'.

The six ethnic minority Christians, who had recently joined Good Shepherd Ministries in Mayurbhanj district, appeared in court but were released on bail, according to Release partner All India Christian Council (AICC).' (Release Int.)

Unemployed but no jobs available?

This is an utterly ridiculous situation. Why is it the job of government to pay you money and/or to find you a better paying job than you can earn on benefits if you are even moderately fit?
We live in an area which would be called lower middle class/upper working class.
It is nigh on impossible to get get people to work on our house and gardens.
How many times have people turned down work? How many times have they made absurd quotes which, if challenged or negotiated, means that they toddle off uninterestedly? Why do many small businesses not even bother to return a phone call after you have left a voice mail.
It can only mean that there is a whole load of work out there - much unskilled and some semi-skilled.
We are surrounded by large amounts of privet and pay well for a first cut. But quotes of  £130 are simply absurd for what is in effect, a solid half days graft.
A couple of students - working their way through university - set up a business to do small gardening jobs. They charge reasonable amounts and immediately have our custom for as long as they are around.Countless homes near us would pay to have their privet cut! Where are the unemployed offering to do this? Chopping down shrubs, cutting lawns, digging gardens?
Seasonal? - Yes, but in seven months you could easily earn a good year's salary if prepared to work longish days.
Simply knocking on doors gets you a start - and when neighbours spot what you are doing it's close to queuing to get your attention with the 'Could you give us a quote when you've finished, mate?
As for basic plumbing, tiling, plastering, painting, wallpapering, brickwork - all of these skills can be learned on (often free) short courses.
Some of these require a minimum of tools and so very little outlay AND if you go out on your own into such businesses - there are even grants to get you started!
How many window cleaners we do not have in this city!
So people like me, who are beginning to age, have a double whammy in having to pay taxes for people to be unemployed AND can't easily get jobs done around the house!
Wonderful, innit?

We NEED PR not AV!

'In fact, in the entire democratic world, only Bhutan, Botswana and Belize have more disproportional chambers than the British House of Commons.'
Rod Crosby.

Remind me again what the abortion time limit is in the UK!

'A record-breaking baby girl who was born at just 21 weeks and five days has spent Easter at home with her delighted parents after spending five months in neonatal care.

Little Frieda was born on November 7, 2010, at Fulda Children's Hospital in Germany. She weighed just 1lb and measured 11 inches.'

Parakeets.

So. DEFRA is preparing to cull the monk parakeet in the south of the country because of the potential for damage by 'an alien species'.

(Let's hope that they do not extrapolate from this interesting logic!)  The worst thing about their insularism however, is their downright refusal to cull the wretched magpie which is systematically wrecking our once lovely songbird population!

Super!

A polite request.

Are your friends horrified by the marginalisation of - and the attacks on Christianity?
Do they hate the insidious movement of leftwing politics?
Are they depressed by creeping political correctness?

Yes? - Then do them a favour. Why not send them the address of this Blog with a recommendation!

Can we believe him? - Precedents are not promising where EU is concerned!

Cameron: "This time I WILL veto EU budget rise that costs £400 a family." (Mail.)

Yeah! And you were going to give us a referendum on The Lisbon Treaty til Brussels reined you in!

Rearrange, please. "Taken asylum the have over lunatics the."

'Britain faces a new influx of migrants who could claim benefits of up to £250 a week within weeks of arriving.

From next Sunday, rules that ban Eastern Europeans from claiming unemployment, housing and council tax benefits until they have worked in the UK for 12 months are being lifted.'

BLAME the electorate who keep on voting for the same, leftist, failed policies and merely rearrange politicians and parties periodically.

We really MUST stop calling UKIP 'a wasted vote' in FPTP elections and vote for them in single-minded fashion until a bandwagon is created.

NO THANKS!

Choice!

Yes. But tragically, they did NOT leave!

Your number plate may need attention.

UKIP sells a variety of small stickers which can be placed neatly over the EU stars on your car number plate.

Beware - apparently aliens are extreme leftists!

VOTE GREEN if you want the most leftwing party currently available in any numbers in the UK.

RIP John Sullivan.

Mark Freeland, BBC head of comedy, said: “No one understood what made us laugh and cry better than John Sullivan. He was the Dickens of our generation. Simply the best, most natural, most heartfelt comedy writer of our time.”
Telegraph.

Let's vote Labour in council elections!

Am I missing something?

'A Liberal Democrat local election candidate has left her party red-faced after she posed in fetish gear in provocative pictures which she then posted on the internet.
The semi-naked photographs of Holly-Ann Battye, which show her lying on her back with a ball gag in her mouth and cupping her breasts, appeared this week on the website DeviantArt, under the user name HollyTheWolly.
Other Gothic-themed shots of the candidate for the South Northants Council ward of Cosgrove and Grafton, are disturbingly captioned 'I kill', 'Voodoo' and 'Make It Bleed'.
Er. This is a LIB DEM. Does any bizarre behaviour or beliefs from that quarter surprise us in any way?

Yes to fairer votes - but this ain't it!

With the referendum hurtling towards us at a rate of knots, I shall take sides once there is a real choice of improvement to our wretched system.
After a great deal of thought I shall abstain on the grounds that if I am offered a death by guillotine or by firing squad, I would want the option of not being killed at all!
A plague on both their houses!

AV is NOT PR - which would be fair - nor is it even the AV+ sytem which makes some attempts at fairness.

Could any tomb hold Him?

Mark 15.

33] At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34] And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

For those who do not understand the last line - please refer to Psalm 22 - written about a THOUSAND years earlier and perhaps you will begin to grasp the bigger picture.

Nota bene! Evil, evil, evil!

Eurogroup chief: 'I'm for secret, dark debates' - 21.04.2011 - 10:01.

Eurozone economic policies should only be conducted via "dark, secret debates", to prevent dangerous movements in financial markets, the Eurogroup chief said on Wednesday, adding that he had often lied in his career to prevent the spread of rumours that could feed speculation.

Big smile!

'Wakefield District Housing were forced to allow Colin Atkinson to display his cross after senior church figures and Hindu, Muslim and Sikh leaders intervened. Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey had described the 64-year-old grandfather’s plight as ‘scandalous’ and Housing and Planning Minister Grant Shapps said WDH’s action was ‘wrong’. (Mail)

Evil in a cunning disguise.

Mark 14.

22] While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” 23] Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24] “This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
