Prison Regimes: Answer The Question Without Shillyshallying!

Dear Liberal Leftie.
I have listened for decades to your absurd diatribes about 'how prison does not work'.
I have seen first hand the abject failure of our system of community punishments.
I think however, we may agree that we have common ground when I say 'Prison does not work well enough.'
So. Do you think a comfortable or an austere prison is the more likely to deter?
Come on! Forget the customary sidetracking and jump for a straightforward answer.
