Six more Christians have received prison sentences in Iran as the world looks to its recent elections to deliver a more moderate political regime.
Judges in the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz recently handed down sentences of 44 months each to four Christians for ‘attending a house church, spreading Christianity, having contact with foreign ministries, propaganda against the regime, and disrupting national security’. They are Mojtaba Seyyed-Alaedin Hossein, Mohammad-Reza Partoei, Vahid Hakkani and Homayoun Shokouhi.
Shokouhi’s wife, Fariba Nazemina, and their son, Nima Shokouhi, each received two-year suspended prison sentences. Hossein and Shokouhi, who were already serving five-year suspended sentences on similar charges, were also sentenced to an additional eight months’ imprisonment.
The six were arrested after police raided their house church in February 2012 – and were denied bail. Release Int.
