Extremists angered by a pastor’s conversion from Hinduism have issued death threats against him and his wife and have attacked his mother.
Pastor Vishaal Behl and his wife have been forced from their home in Rajasthan state and have gone into hiding because of repeated threats. He directs Fire of God ministries, which has three churches and runs projects in prisons and schools.
Previously, the couple lived with his mother, Reena Behl, in Jaipur. Last Tuesday, four men in motorbike helmets forced their way in to Reena’s home, demanding to see Pastor Vishaal. When she said he was not there, they attacked her and broke her furniture and other property. She required hospital treatment for her injuries, including a gash to the head.
Her attackers threatened to ‘cut to pieces’ Vishaal and his wife unless they converted back to Hinduism. They left only when neighbours responded to Reena’s cries for help.
