SIR – With your report on the Government’s pro-EUpamphlet you included images of some of its pages. One carried the misleading statement: “Over three million jobs are linked to exports to the EU.”
I am appalled by the accompanying table headed “UK industry and the EU.” The three industries in this table that each employ more than a million people are listed as IT and telecoms, financial services and transport.
The table makes no mention of the fact that the vast majority of these jobs service the domestic market, but instead deliberately misleads by showing the percentage of the exports in each category “going to the EU”.
Such distortion undermines the Government’s credibility. Ministers should dissociate themselves from it.
