First Day - Third & Final Test.

Strange things happened in Saint Lucia yesterday morning as the West Indies won their third toss out of three.
On a fairly decent pitch, the questionable decision was made to put England in.
Maybe the bizarre thinking was based on the rather dodgy basis that England would be reeling from having already thrown away the short series and would undoubtedly throw in the towel at their first sight of a Windies bowler. I have no idea.
Initially, it looked a giant mistake as England plodded to a steady 40 without loss. However, within the next 29 runs - three wickets had been lost and all advantages were cast to the winds. (As is usually the case, these days.)
Why England had included the rabbit-in-headlights, otherwise known as Keaton Jennings, it is impossible to say.
Joe Root's current form is execrable and he looked only marginally better than the hapless Jennings at the crease.
Root duly departed and at four down, England were in trouble - and big style.
Step forward Buttler and Stokes who saw England to a very positive 231 for four, although Stokes had to survive having been given out only for it to be revealed by the cameras that he had been the victim of a no ball. To the chagrin of the home side, he was recalled to continue his innings. He used his reprieve exceptionally well.
This score is better than it might appear at first sight as there was so much grass on the outfield that few balls were able to limp to the boundary - even after well-hit, firm strokes.
Windies commentator, Ian Bishop, seemed to think that a score of 280 in the first innings would be par.
The second new ball is still fresh and firm and so the batsmen will need to play themselves in again this morning. Both look set for good scores - but this is England batting, so who knows?
