"She has not gone, she is in the very air we breathe." - Only if the filters at the crematorium are not properly functioning.
"He will be singing up there with the angels." - Er, no! He never repented, did not 'live the life' and didn't give a fig for the Saviour. The only angels he will be seeing are the rebellious, fallen angels condemned for eternity.
"He'll be looking down at us and will be with us always." - Er, sorry. It doesn't work like that from Hell.
Time for Christians to tell sinners where they are going and why. "But wouldn't that be offensive to people? Might they not be embarrassed? Besides, I'd feel awkward telling them."
So, dear Christian - your sensitivities are more important than perhaps nudging a few people you know towards salvation, are they? God will be pleased.
Blogger: I too have those weak feelings. I am many miles from being a paragon of all the Christian virtues. My response has been to try writing books and this very Blog. Yes. I know I should do a great deal more. I'm sorry, Lord. Please help me to start conversations with unbelievers in the same way that my dear, late friend Alan was able to do. "God is not willing that any should perish."
He died on a cursed tree to give us a route out of this awful situation.
Shame on those preachers who refuse to tell congregations the truth at funerals. Being nice is no substitute for prompting people - gently - into examining where they stand spiritually.
