Signs of torture
The family of a young Christian farmworker in Pakistan whose body was found hanging from the ceiling of a cattle shed believe that he was killed and his death made to look like suicide.
Dilshad Masih believes his 21-year-old brother Marcus was tortured to death by his Muslim employers in Sargodha, in Punjab province, on March 4.
The family had become suspicious after hospital staff released the body following a post mortem examination. Masih said: ‘When the body was returned to us, we saw severe bruises and burn marks. That is when we realised Marcus had been tortured.’
Following the incident, dozens of Christians staged a protest by placing the corpse on the main road and blocking traffic, demanding registration of a criminal case. Police subsequently registered a First Information Report, Masih said.
Asher Adeel, a Sargodha-based human rights advocate, said: ‘The visible injuries suggest severe torture.’
Pray that the truth of what happened to Marcus Masih will come to light.
Pray for justice for the Masih family and that they will know God’s comfort.
Pray for protection and equality in law for the poor and vulnerable Christian communities in Pakistan.
