On Wednesday 11th July, Ferryhill Town Council held a special meeting about Richard Smith, the ex-mayor who was hounded out of office for posting Christian views of sexuality and Islam on Facebook. An observer at the event reports on what happened:

Wednesday night’s meeting of Ferryhill Town Council was meant to be a triumphant lynching of the town’s Christian ex-Mayor, Cllr Richard Smith, by the mob of adherents to modern tolerant British values - led by the local drag queen known under the elegant pseudonym Tess Tickle. However, it took an unexpected turn when the LGBT activists’ demo outside the town hall met the Christian counter-demo in defence of free speech. Yesterday, I spotted a 'Rainbow Laces' ad with a number of cricketers telling us that cricket is 'for everybody' and even the stumps at Headingley were in 'rainbow colours'.

Forgive me for asking but precisely when and where have:-
Homosexuals been forbidden from taking part in this - or indeed - in any other sport?
Have homosexuals been barred from umpiring?
Have homosexual spectators been banned from grounds?

NO? - So what is happening here, then? - This looks to me like active recruitment!

A speeding driver who killed two young brothers in a hit-and-run while high on drugs has had his nine-year jail term increased to 10-and-a-half years by the Court of Appeal.

Robert Brown was banned from driving, travelling at more than twice the speed limit and had taken a cocktail of drugs when he mowed down Corey and Casper Platt-May, aged six and two.

The boys were on their way to a park with their mother Louise Platt-May when they were struck by Brown’s Ford Focus as they crossed MacDonald Road, Coventry, in February.

Banning Conversion Therapy Is A Dangerous Path.

On Tuesday the government announced an LGBT Action Plan, and top of the list is the determination to ‘stamp out’ what it simplistically calls ‘conversion therapies’ for sexual orientation and gender identity. The usual media circus flared up as it does around this subject. Most journalists and commentators have not realised how dangerous this really is. The United Kingdom has turned a corner with this announcement in that it is attacking fundamental rights and freedoms which historically it used to support.

 

Why ex-gays are perceived as a threat

Gay activists clearly perceive the very claim of ex-gay people to exist to be a serious threat. This is the real reason they want the entire ex-gay movement silenced, and their way to do that is to campaign worldwide to ban therapy that aims to reduce unwanted same-sex attraction and to increase heterosexual attraction. The real reason this therapy has been attacked and allegedly ‘discredited’ by gay activists is precisely that many people have experienced change to a greater or lesser degree. Thousands of people around the world have either left the gay lifestyle or have never acted upon same-sex attraction.

It is vitally important to grasp that ‘gay’ is a sexual identity not just a sexual orientation. It is a social category and around it an entire apparatus of rights and privileges has been built which props up an entire subculture that has now taken over the government. This has led to the redefinition of marriage and family life in law and public policy, with very damaging consequences all around.

 

Ex-gays concluded they did not like homosexual behaviour

The very existence of ex-gays threatens to undermine all this. For essentially ex-gays are saying two things. First, they do not believe in the philosophy of the LGB movement, even though they have been same-sex attracted. Second, to be blunt, they have concluded that they do not like homosexual behaviour and do not want to engage in it. They have noted the clash between the form and design of the human body and same-sex sexual behaviour which goes against this. This clash troubles them, and they cannot accept the insistence by LGBT activists and their ‘allies’ that they should behave like this simply because their feelings point that way.

Change of sexual identity from gay to straight really happens and is a threat to the LGB movement as it potentially involves reduction in the pool of homosexual sexual partners. What’s more, those who leave frequently have little good to say about the subculture.

 

Most clients had intrinsic motivations for accessing therapy

The results of the government LGBT Survey show that a majority of respondents who had had therapy are non-religious. These results can be found in Annex 5, ‘Safety’, Q142-143. There is table indicating the religion or belief of respondents who said they had had therapy. Although the table shows that Muslim and Hindu respondents were the most likely to have had therapy, the single largest group were those of no religion: 1.5% of the 63, 690 non-religious respondents, which comes to 955 people. This was followed by Christians, of whom 3.9% of 17, 070 respondents said they had had therapy, which comes to 666 people.

This echoes the findings of the 2009 paper by Bartlett, Smith and King, which found that only 7% of clients were reported to be primarily motivated by religious concerns. Most were motivated by intrinsic concerns, with confusion about sexual orientation at the top of the list (57%). Only 15% were motivated by ‘social pressures including family’. This scuppers the claim that therapy is inherently coercive.

Whilst considering the government’s LGBT survey, let’s not forget that it only had responses from people who now have an LGBT sexual identity. No effort was made to study past clients whose sexual attraction changed and who then went on to marry and have children. In other words, the government has deliberately ignored ex-gays and is actively discriminating against them.

 

LGBT activists are running scared of public opinion

It is relevant here that the evidence about public opinion on homosexuality is so mixed. The truth is that most British people do not believe gay or lesbian people are ‘born that way’. The level of belief in Britain now is the highest ever (35% according to the ILGA 2016 survey), and will probably not get any higher. In 2013, the year the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act was passed, the American survey company Pew Research Center found thatonly 36% of British people considered homosexuality morally acceptable.

This year social scientists at Manchester University admitted that Britain may have reached ‘peak LGBT acceptance’. They based this on the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles, which is the largest random sample survey on attitudes to sexual behaviour that Britain has.

 

Will therapy be banned as hate speech?

In light of this less than flattering picture, the only way in which the LGBT movement can continue its campaign to normalise homosexuality is to shut down the evidence provided by the ex-gay movement and to enforce hate speech laws ever more stringently to this end. It is no accident that the government has also just made an announcement setting outits intention to publish a revised Hate Crime Action Plan later this year. That way we can be sure the police will patrol twitter ever more stringently to detect any sign of support for ‘conversion therapies’, which activists undoubtedly want to be considered hate speech and non-violent extremism.

Censoring people’s ability to speak freely about homosexuality will mean that more people will be unable to get help to leave the gay lifestyle. This is particularly a problem for men for various reasons. Censorship will also make it far more difficult for vulnerable young people to resist being drawn in.

There is no such thing as a right to sexual partners, yet it is the hidden belief in this that is driving the global campaign to ban therapy. For it is really giving out the message that ex-gays should not exist, and that therapists should not facilitate clients’ personal goals of leaving homosexuality behind. Instead people should stay gay and learn to know their place!

 

Reassessing the compromise set by the Wolfenden Report

In proposing a ban on therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction, the UK government has ripped up the moral compromise set by the Wolfenden Report and the Sexual Offences Act 1967. Everything will go downhill from now on. For the fact is that Wolfenden’s view on decriminalisation was predicated upon acceptance of the therapeutic treatment of male homosexuality. Therapists were in favour, but the Conservative govenrment of the day was not, and neither was the public.

Toleration of male homosexuality would probably never have occurred without the perspective of therapists and their role in social persuasion. Successive governments have long since thrown away any respect for moral objectivity or even compromise on this subject, in passing laws permitting same-sex parenting and ‘marriage’.

In light of the proposed ban on therapy, it is time not only to defend therapy but also to reassess what has been done to society in the name of decriminalisation of male homosexual acts. For if the long-term effect has been to propose to criminalise therapy, then the train of reasoning that led to the Sexual Offences Act 1967 is completely undermined. The real losers here are ex-gays and their families. Meanwhile the government loses its integrity and diminishes its reputation worldwide. Christian Concern.

THE SECOND SHOE DROPS IN THE BREXIT COUP

In her 2016 Conservative party leadership speech, Theresa May said this:

“I will create a new government department responsible for conducting Britain’s negotiation with the EU and for supporting the rest of Whitehall in its European work. That department will be led by a senior Secretary of State – and I will make sure that the position is taken by a Member of Parliament who campaigned for Britain to leave the EU.”

Her first appointment as Brexit Secretary was the Brexiteer David Davis. When earlier this month he resigned from the government over Mrs May’s Chequers betrayal, Davis made the explosive claim that he and his department had been sidelined and then shafted over the formulation of the UK’s negotiating position with the EU.

He described how he and his team had been working on what they thought was to be the Brexit white paper, in accordance with the promises and undertakings previously set by Mrs May, only for him be be presented at Chequers with a proposal that tore up those promises and undertakings.

His deputy, Steve Baker, spelled this out when interviewed by Jo Coburn on BBC TV’s Daily Politics:

Baker: I don’t think it’s too indiscreet to point out that what has happened here is that we’ve all been blindsided by this policy. You know we were preparing a white paper which did not accord with what has been put to the Cabinet, Chequers. The white paper we were working on reflected the series of speeches which the Prime Minister made and as has been said this is a significant evolution from those speeches. So you know things have changed considerably this week, and they’ve changed considerably in a way which I will not be able to represent as my own policy; and therefore I can’t be in the government.

Coburn: So were you out of the loop as your department was basically marginalised in this process?

Baker: Yeah there’s no getting around it, yes, I mean the Secretary of State and I have resigned for reasons and these are amongst the reasons.

True to her word, Mrs May replaced Davis with another Brexiteer, Dominic Raab. What she never said, however, was that she would remove the Brexit Secretary and his entire government department from their responsibility “for conducting Britain’s negotiation with the EU” altogether.

Today, as MPs were departing for the summer recess, this demarche became public. In a written statement, Mrs May announced that she herself would lead the negotiations with the EU. The Cabinet Office Europe Unit, headed by arch-Remainer official Olly Robbins, would henceforth have “overall responsibility for the preparation and conduct of the negotiations”. Raab’s Department for Exiting the EU would merely “lead on all of the Government’s preparations for Brexit”.

At the Commons Brexit committee today, Robbins was asked whether he had indeed drafted a parallel Brexit white paper in secret. He was reported as saying “he does not accept this. He says what happened was routine for this sort of operation.”

As for Raab, he was reported as maintaining with a straight face that “Theresa May has always been in overall charge of the negotiations. He says he deputises for her. These changes are about ensuring there is a unified chain of command”.

These protestations won’t wash. The fact that Davis and Baker had previously been sidelined and blindsided does not alter the significance of what has now occurred. The second Brexit-busting shoe has dropped. Raab should never have accepted this poisoned Chequers chalice in the first place and has now been humiliated. The ministerial organ grinder has been replaced by the civil servant monkey. “Sir Humphrey” is now the de facto Secretary of State. It’s not just a Remainer coup but a Whitehall coup.

Britain’s “exit” from the EU is now to be handled by a Remainer Prime Minster and a Remainer mandarin who is already widely credited with putting the policy pieces in place for the betrayal of Brexit and the British people.

Mrs May should never have been elected party leader, should not have remained Prime Minister after she mucked up the last election and should never have been allowed anywhere near the EU negotiations. But here she still is, and becoming more devious and dictatorial by the day.

She is reportedly planning a summer charm offensive round the country to persuade the public that she will keep faith with them and deliver Brexit. The people need to tell the Prime Minister loud and clear that they simply don’t believe her, that her credibility is shot to pieces, that they will no longer be treated as fools and that, unless the government delivers Brexit in deed as well as word, not just she but the Conservative party itself will be finished for ever.

The people voted for their democratic freedom to govern themselves. Now they need to fight desperately for that freedom against those whose plans to destroy it, and betray the people, are about to reach their Machiavellian crescendo.

That voting right of centre is anathema to many Christians is often understandable but however objectionable these may be - they are rarely evil.

At the simplest level, if explaining this to someone who is not especially academic, what you do is point out the reluctance of the left (and seeping rapidly into conservatism too) to 'make punishments fit the crime which has been a Bible principle ever since Genesis 9:6.

Moral Relativism - The Practical Problems.

Meta-ethical moral relativists believe not only that people disagree about moral issues, but that terms such as "good", "bad", "right" and "wrong" do not stand subject to universal truth conditions at all; rather, they are relative to the traditions, convictions, or practices of an individual or a group of people.

In my village, long subsumed into a large city, if you go back a 150 years or even a mere century - and possibly even less - there were shared ideas, ideals, standards and morality. The vast majority were Christian - at least in terms of a general philosophical stance.

At times in History, there have been groups from different nations arrive here to make their home. There have been Dutch, Jews, Huguenot French, Poles fleeing Hitler and the so-called 'Windrush generation' etc.

Over centuries these people have merged into the mainstream. This has not been all that difficult because, in every case, there has been a unifying thread - that of subscribing, at the very least in general terms, to the Christian Ethic or possibly, the Judeo-Christian ethic.

 Interesting how minute the 'negative effect' of skin colour has had on this process. Integration has been largely straightforward.

However, the new and pernicious goal of so-called 'multi-culturalism' can never again allow that same level of sustainable integration.

In the past: Poles kept their Polishness; people from the Caribbean kept their West Indian culture as indeed, did the Jews keep their roots BUT this gradually became less threatening as all these groups embraced Britishness.

It is inestimably damaging to the very fabric of our society that the doors have been thrown open to all and sundry from nations which can be deemed to be somewhat outside the above parameters. 

Furthermore, this has not been just small groups of refugees or those bringing essential skills to our nation but absurdly mixed economic migrants by the million to add to the many who have arrived illegally.

Our society is now one complex mass of uncontrolled religions and contradictory philosophies. It is so complicated that unity has become an impossible goal. You only have to consider the hundreds of ghettos springing up within our cities - each with a culture outside the mainstream.

Ironically, and perhaps very dangerously, the indigenous population are expected to yield their culture to make way for other types.

The left has desired this chaos. They believe in 'melting pot' ideas making a better world. This is a dreadful risk and logically, cannot succeed!

After having visited three nations in the UAE earlier this year, it is clear that the governments of those nations adamantly refuse to fall into this perilous trap.
