The "core" of this new addition to the curriculum is "to understand the essential concept of European identity, multiculturalism and respect for human rights". All sounds very familiar, doesn't it?According to Education Minister Bill Rammell, these proposals carry a "moral and political obligation". Since when has it been the function of our education system to impose "political obligations" on children? I hope parents of schoolchildren start asking serious questions.
