If we don't believe - then more fool us!

"We do not believe in evil any more, only evil acts, which can be explained away by the science of the mind ... "
John Connolly.

The problem here is that we all know and recognise evil. It is for that reason that we are in such desperate need of a redeemer. These are matters for which science, despite the lofty hubris of its adherents, can never supply answers.

One might also ask how evil can possibly exist in vacuo. How can there be evil acts without there being evil in its own right?
Evil is not even a mere concept but rather a reality which only the truly foolish dare deny.
[To be fair to Connolly - he doesn't accept the validity of the statement either - but he captures a view which is largely found amongst the liberal left.]
