Celebrated British cardinal who converted from Anglicanism 'becomes a saint.'
Cardinal John Henry Newman, an important figure for Catholics and Anglicans alike, is being made Britain's first saint since the 1970s. Christian Today.
John Newman is dead and has been for a 129 years. If he was a Christian - then he was, indeed, a saint. So, take the 129 years and add to the time when he was saved and that was the start of his sainthood - NOT when some pope opts to make a declaration of it.
The Scriptures refer to 'the saints' as being all believers. End of!
If John Newman was not saved - then not all the popes in history combined together could make him one.
