Nigerian Christians appeal for prayer as death toll rises and more displaced
Nigerian Christians are appealing for urgent prayer as yet more believers have been killed, injured or displaced.

Four Christians were left dead after a raid by Fulani militants in central Nigeria’s Benue state on October 9, local sources reported.

In the northeastern Logo county, armed herdsmen attacked the village of Ayilamo, killing university student Solomon Kwanta and another Christian, local residents said.

‘Apart from the two Christians killed during the attack, many other Christians were injured,’ said Benard Chia in a message to Christian Daily International-Morning Star News (CDI-MSN). ‘Armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Ayilamo at about midnight on Wednesday.’

Kwanta was a final-year student at the University of Calabar who was back in the village on break, Chia said.

Local resident Aandosoo David said villagers injured in the attack were being treated at a healthcare centre in Ayilamo, adding, ‘Your prayers are needed, please.

Tyongi Emmanuel, another villager, said the situation was dire. ‘Everyone here is on the run, as we have all been displaced,’ he said, while villager Tsavsar Msughaondo told CDI-MSN, ‘Fulani herdsmen have taken over our ancestral lands; we are therefore calling on the Nigerian Government to quickly intervene here in the Ayilamo area of Benue state in order to end these unprovoked attacks on us.’

On October 3 armed herdsmen reportedly killed two Christians in Kwande county in the southeastern part of the state.

Local resident Fabian Terseer said: ‘Attacks by armed Fulani herders have become a common occurrence here. Unfortunately, media organisations have not given these incidents adequate coverage. The sad thing too is that the Nigerian Government has not deemed it necessary to take steps towards ending these attacks on our communities. For how long are we expected to endure these killing epidemics?’
  • The current Voice magazine contains a number of testimonies from Nigerian Christians who have suffered the loss of loved ones – and yet, by God’s grace, have come to a deeper faith in Christ. We thank God for our partners who have shown God’s love by caring for the bereaved and traumatised.

UPDATE

The court case into the disappearance of Malaysian pastor Raymond Koh (pictured) continues this week.

Please pray that his wife, Susanna, and their family will finally be able to discover what happened to Raymond, who was abducted off the street in broad daylight in February 2017 and has not been seen since.

Responsibility for his kidnapping, which was captured on CCTV, has been laid at the door of the Malaysian Special Branch.
