Dignified?

As somebody with my views on one particular topic being something of an illogical mess, I am almost sorry that last night I missed the BBC programme which showed the voluntary euthanasia death of Peter Smedley at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland.
Is it just suicide? Has 'science moved the goalposts? Is it open to abuse? Would Christ have abandoned people to their extreme suffering during His earthly ministry? Are we entitled to take our own lives? Does being 'created in God's image' have a relevance?
No. really sorry. It is the one issue I cannot get my head around. My opinion changes almost daily!
