Yesterday, I passed by a huge wind farm off the German coast. I
must admit that I really do admire those sad people who believe so fervently
that these white elephants are going to be able to solve our energy
needs.
Sorry - but it just ain't gonna happen. The amounts produced are
too small; they have to shut down when there is too much wind; when there is too
little - they do not work.
The capital costs are huge; the energy needed to build them is
phenomenal; they would not exist if the national grid were not paying absurd
extra amounts per unit; they have a relatively short shelf life.
I may not be popular in saying that two things are destined
to happen:-
Firstly, we are on course to power cuts in the next
decade.
Secondly, the inevitable consequence is that we shall have to buy
power from foreign nations who will have us over a barrel.
Nuclear and fracking MUST happen! Fracking is, IMHO, the way
forward.
