Nigel Farage will have no Brexit Party MPs after the election, says Matthew Goodwin.
Nigel Farage's Brexit party will be left with no MPs after the election, a leading academic has claimed, as more of the party's candidates stood down and urged voters to back the Conservatives.
Peter Udale, the Brexit Party candidate in the Cotswolds, said he was standing down and urged voters in his area to support the Conservatives as Richard Tice, the party's chairman, declared that he would fight as a candidate in Hartlepool, one of the safest 'Leave seats' in the country.
Blogger: Even this late in the day, with a slight dip in Tory polling - a lead of 11% in the most recent poll - Boris would be delighted to see none of his would-be, Brexit-voting MPs left facing the Brexit Party, thus splitting the vote.
Common sense prevailing, he would offer not to challenge in 20 Labour seats where the BP would have a great chance of winning. In a balanced exchange, Nigel would offer not to be destructive to the prospects of democratic Tory candidates. Naturally, all remainer Tory seats would be up for the BP to contest.
Acting thus, the Tory majority would possibly be guaranteed with the added bonus of the BP picking up some seats, at least.
