Father Damien or Saint Damien of Molokai, SS.CC. or Saint Damien De Veuster (Dutch: Pater Damiaan or Heilige Damiaan van Molokai; 3 January 1840 – 15 April 1889),born Jozef De Veuster, was a Roman Catholic priest from Belgium and member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, a missionary religious institute. He was recognized for his ministry, which he led from 1873 until his death in 1889, in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi to people with leprosy (Hansen's disease), who lived in government-mandated medical quarantine in a settlement on the Kalaupapa Peninsula of Molokaʻi.
During this time, he taught the Catholic faith to the people of Hawaii. Father Damien also cared for the patients and established leaders within the community to build houses, schools, roads, hospitals, and churches. He dressed residents' ulcers, built a reservoir, made coffins, dug graves, shared pipes, and ate poi with them, providing both medical and emotional support.
After eleven years caring for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of those in the leper colony, Father Damien contracted leprosy. He continued with his work despite the infection but finally succumbed to the disease on 15 April 1889. Father Damien also had tuberculosis which worsened his condition, but some believe that the reason he volunteered in the first place was due to his illness of tuberculosis. Wiki.

A pair of burglars who grinned in their mugshots after being arrested for terrorising a town have been jailed.
Terry Hannifin, 33, and Sean Ryan, 31, were caught after going on a month-long crime spree in Rugby, Warwickshire, last October.
They committed a total of nine offences, including burglary, stealing a car, a bicycle and driving without insurance and driving while disqualified.
The brazen pair, both from Rugby, posed grinning for their mugshots following their arrest on 15 November when caught red-handed by police who spotted them breaking into a property.
They were jailed for 33 months each after admitting a string of offences at Warwick Crown Court last Friday.
Hannifin pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and without insurance and theft of a bicycle.
Ryan pleaded guilty to burglary and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Detective Constable Matt Rapkins, of Warwickshire Police, said: “Hannifin is a prolific offender and his actions in November led to a huge amount of alarm and distress in the community.
“A prison sentence will hopefully wipe the smiles of both their faces.
“I hope this conviction reassures the community that we are committed to taking action to tackle offenders like Hannifin and Ryan who cause so much misery.”

ROME — Lebanon is the target of “a systematic and calculated strategy by Iran and its minions to empty the country of its Christians,” Habib C. Malik told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview Wednesday.
Malik, Senior Fellow on Lebanon and Middle Eastern Christians at The Philos Project, said Iran and its “proxies” are intentionally creating the conditions (poverty, collapse, instability, fear, despair) that are forcing Lebanon’s Christians to emigrate.
“The principal Iranian proxy now dominating Lebanon is Hezbollah, the armed Lebanese Shiite group beholden firstly to the Iranian ideological and expansionist agenda, and not to Lebanon,” Malik told Breitbart News.
Lebanon today “is facing a new and unprecedented threat unlike previous scourges — it is the difference between what I would term the ‘dumb evil’ of the Islamic State (ISIS or Daesh) and the ‘cunning evil’ of Hezbollah and its Iranian Mullah overlords,” he declared.
Hezbollah “has done everything in its power first to precipitate Lebanon’s downfall and then, by protecting the criminal mafia ruling class responsible for the downfall, to prevent any measures from being taken to commence Lebanon’s recovery,” he contended.
The intentional sabotage of sectors such as education, healthcare, and the banking system have given rise to a “galloping” emigration of predominantly Christian youth, Malik said, aggravated by Hezbollah terror strikes that have killed, injured, and displaced hundreds of thousands of Christians.

Hezbollah has actively and deliberately sought “to alter Lebanon’s identity as a country and a society: from a free and open society with both solid Arab and Western connections to one with stronger if not exclusive ties with Iran, Assad’s Syria, China, and other anti-Western states,” he stated.
In private discussions with Christian groups, Hezbollah representatives “have bluntly said that their community is better equipped to outlast any Christian measures to deal with Lebanon’s freefall into failed-state status,” he noted.
Malik also warned of a pervasive “false narrative” about the situation of Christians in Syria and Lebanon, which emerged particularly during the height of the Islamic State’s terrorist activities.
Many believed that when it came to “the choice between living under the brutality of the Assad regime or enduring the bloodthirsty devastations of Daesh (ISIS), the first option was far better,” he noted.
This is a false narrative, he insisted, because “it is a choice between an immediate and drastic yet dumb evil, and the more insidious evil of a slow and debilitating form of tyrannical rule.”
It is no accident that Bashar Assad is a staunch ally of the Iranian regime, he added, and the Islamic State “served as a convenient tool in the hands of Iran and Assad against more moderate Sunnis, against Christians, and against Western interests.”
Malik said that Iran’s war on the Christians in the region, not just in Lebanon, “has been deliberate as part of the larger objective of creating the Shiite Crescent stretching from Iran to Lebanon through both Iraq and Syria.”
Since the Iranian regime’s ideology literally hates freedom, “it sees the native Christians, especially those of Lebanon who have successfully resisted dhimmitude over the centuries at enormous cost to them in terms of lives and resources, as the great obstacle in the face of their domination of the region,” he said.

Man arrested for holding ‘God bless the homeless vets’ sign sues city.

A U.S. Army veteran and former truck driver has filed a lawsuit against a city in Georgia after he was arrested for holding a sign that read “God bless the homeless Vets.”
Jeff Gray filed two lawsuits on Tuesday over being reportedly harassed for carrying the sign, with one suit being against the city of Alpharetta while the other was against Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright.
The suit against Alpharetta was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division, and named as defendants Arick Furr and Harold Shoffeitt, both of the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.
At issue was an incident in which Gray was detained, arrested and charged with allegedly violating the city’s anti-panhandling policy, with Gray being banned from the area.
“Gray’s speech about the plight of homeless veterans — whether ‘panhandling’ or not — and his subsequent questioning of Lt. Furr’s actions, was clearly established as protected political expression,” stated the complaint. “Even if Gray was ‘panhandling,’ it is clearly established that the First Amendment protects speakers asking others for help.”
The suit against Wright was filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, Waycross Division, with Gray being cited for allegedly violating an ordinance against “holding a ‘parade, procession, or demonstration’ without the Blackshear City Council’s permission.”
“But the First Amendment is Gray’s permission slip. Indeed, a half century ago, the United States Supreme Court made this clear by striking down an almost-identical ordinance in Birmingham, Alabama,” read the suit, in part.
“The Supreme Court ruled that the ordinance violated the First Amendment by giving local officials unbridled discretion to deny permits to hold ‘a parade, procession or other public demonstration.’”
For his litigation, Gray is being represented by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, a civil liberties group that originally focused solely on First Amendment issues in education.
“Jeff Gray doesn’t need a government-issued permission slip to speak — the First Amendment is his permission slip,” said FIRE attorney Harrison Rosenthal, in a statement released Wednesday.
“Speaking out in public areas is a core First Amendment right, whether government officials recognize it or not. If our cities won’t teach officers to do their job properly, FIRE will.”
Gray operates the YouTube channel “HonorYourOath Civil Rights Investigations” in which he describes himself as a “civil rights investigator, First Amendment auditor, Second Amendment auditor.”
In 2021, Gray filed a complaint against officials with the city of Moultrie, Georgia, after he was charged with disorderly conduct in 2019 when he walked around city hall with a sign that read “F— City Hall,” according to the Moultrie Observer.

OLDEST PTERODACTYL found in limestone quarry. Researchers in Germany have studied an “exquisitely preserved” fossil of Pterodactylus antiquus – an extinct flying reptile, dated as 152 million years old. This makes it the oldest specimen of this species of flying reptile. The fossil is almost complete, with only a few fragments missing. The scientists wrote in their report: “Otherwise, the skeleton is nearly perfectly preserved with every bone present and in its roughly correct anatomical position”. Many other exquisitely preserved fossils have been found in the same quarry. The research team also reported “Excavation conducted over the last 20 years yielded a rich and diverse fossil assemblage comprising abundant plant remains, invertebrates (including sponges, corals, crinoids, brachiopods, ammonites, coleoids, gastropods, crustaceans, echinoderms) and vertebrates.” The vertebrates include fish, ichthyosaurs, turtles, dinosaurs, marine and terrestrial crocodile-relatives, as well as other pterosaurs.
