And This Lunacy Comes From a So-Called Conservative Administration!

Defence shake-up means our smallest Army since the Boer War!

The Army is to be cut in size by 17,000 soldiers in a radical overhaul of the armed forces to be announced on Monday. (Telegraph.)

The Rich Young Man.

In the incident of The Rich Young Man in Mark 10 (Rich Young Ruler in older translations) - we have something which stands out from all other stories in The Gospels.
He is in fact, the only person recorded who approaches Jesus with a degree of honesty who then leaves Him, disappointed.
His wealth was 'a barrier' and please do not think that this story is just about money - it is far broader.
We are invoked to abandon all barriers in our lives which damage our relationship with God.
I know what mine are - and I work on them. Are you certain that you know what the 'barriers' are in your life?

Guardian Think.

I have just experienced a rather sickening five minutes reading comments posted by Guardian readers in the wake of an article in which Nadine Dorries MP defended herself from some appalling attacks on her by Suzanne Moore.
With only a small handful of exceptions this bunch of wild feminists argued vigorously in favour of abortion. They were so blinded by a rampant secular agenda that most clearly had little or no conceptual understanding of a foetus as being HUMAN LIFE.
I could add considerable amounts to this but for once, I'll let it rest after noting that 'leftwing compassion' is no more than an oxymoron.

Barmy!

Sheikh Raed Salah recently entered the country illegally, knowing that there was an order banning him from doing so. Yesterday, he was  released on bail by the High Court!
To that self-same High Court, I do hereby award a LoonyTunesWatch coconut!

Repentance.

In Christianity, 'repentance' is the ultimate prerequisite of all relationship with God.
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We all have to repent pretty regularly because of this.
A thought recently struck me. Even as believers, I wonder how much of our repentance is truly genuine.
As the faithless father said to Jesus, "I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief." So perhaps, by the same token, Christians might often need to pray, "I do repent - help me to overcome my lack of repentance."

Some Reflections on The Charlie Gilmour Situation.

Dave Gilmour's adopted son is in the public eye - as well as court - for appalling behaviour in  public, whether or not he is actually convicted on specifics.
1) Why is his case any more newsworthy than that of any other social dreg?
2) Will Girton College be kicking him out for the damage to their reputation and out of a sense of moral rectitude?
3) Why has it taken so long to get this obnoxious, monied, privileged leftie to face a court? - Why was it not 'fast-tracked' to the next morning as always used to be the case? (Apologies for the current jargon!) - In the case of a 'not guilty' plea - why not a week to trial? - This is no high profile murder case.

Justice delayed is justice denied - for all concerned.

A Coconut is Called For!

'Six footballers jailed for their part in a midnight orgy in a park with two 12-year-old girls were freed yesterday after a court ruled their victims ‘wanted sex’.
A LoonyTunesWatch coconut is hereby awarded to The Appeals Court!

Boston Catastrophe.

It appears that five immigrants have died after the terrible explosion on a Boston industrial estate. Already on the Internet there is a serious lack of compassion - and some actually seem PLEASED.
Sometimes I feel ashamed to be a human being!
Did I want these people here - brewing illegal vodka? - No. Of course not!
This Blog hates immigration NOT immigrants. God loves every one of us!

In The FT.

Martin Wolf: Eurozone might be on the verge of a crisis that “destroys” much of the European project.
In the FT, Martin Wolf argues that, “The eurozone might be on the verge of a fiscal cum financial crisis that destroys not just the solvency of important countries but even the currency union and, at worst, much of the European project.” He notes that, “Italy, with the fourth-largest public debt in the world, is probably too big to save: Italians themselves must make the decisive moves needed to restore fiscal credibility.”

Criterion of Embarrassment.

'The Criterion of Embarrassment' is an interesting postulation amongst historians.
It works to the principle that, if there are any negatives admitted in an historical document which speak in an uncomplimentary fashion with regard to a perceived and lauded 'hero' - then, historically, that account is much more likely to be true and accurate.
This is a term which I encountered for the first time today but I recognised that it follows a theme which I have outlined a number of times on this very Blog.
The Scriptures never hide the downsides of anybody in order to allegedly strengthen their fundamental 'wonderfulness'.
This applies from Adam to Abraham, from David to Solomon, from Jacob to Esau and for the whole body of the Twelve Disciples as well as The Early Church!
Indeed, it may well have been this very thought process which caused me to investigate the claims of The Gospel to a quite profound level in the first place.

They Can't Ignore The People's Voice Now - Can They?

'An overwhelming majority of voters want Britain to withdraw from the European Union – with support draining away thanks to the economic chaos surrounding the single currency.
A poll released to the Daily Mail shows the public would vote by 50 to 33 per cent to abandon Brussels if a referendum were held tomorrow, a huge lead of 17 points.'
Oh, YES They Can!
Frankly though, I just cannot believe that a third of the population still support the EU and that there are still that many 'don't knows'.

Any Guesses Which Nation Has The Greatest Number Of Permanent Immigrants In Europe?

Sharia Law.

I have sometimes heard reasonably intelligent people speak in favour of Sharia Law - because it is not afraid to punish.
We are not simply talking here about the restoration of capital and corporal punishment Singapore-style for grave offences.
There is rather more to it! (What should the penalty be for a Muslim who converts to Christianity, for example?)
For those who make sweeping statements based on very little actual knowledge - a little more thought is perhaps called for.

Headline.

Britain facing a £43billion hit if the Italian economy collapses.

And if we were NOT in the EU?

A Long Overdue 'Hallelujah'!

Christians who disagree with gay equality rules should have the freedom to follow their conscience, a watchdog ruled yesterday.
In a major U-turn, the Equality and Human Rights Commission declared that judges should not have backed employers who pursued Christians for wearing crosses or for refusing to give sex therapy to gay couples.
‘The way existing human rights and equality law has been interpreted by judges is insufficient to protect freedom of religion or belief,’ the commission said.

Green or What?

The leading thinker behind the Green party movement is one Heinrich Boell. (Same as the novelist?)
He realized that the Left wing needed a new face and packaging, after he read Alexander Solzhenitsyn's 'Gulag Archipelago', which revealed the cruelty of Socialism, behind the Iron Curtain. He took the Communist Manifesto and replaced the working class with the environment, the red flag with a green one and changed the name to the Green Movement.
I believe it important that posters understand the radical & Marxist basis of the Green party movement.
Like the Bolshevik Party all truths and especially scientific ones are subordinate to party policy. Like the Bolshevik Party it is permissible to distort and twist science for political ends.
In debating scientific matters it is well to be aware of this as scientific truths are always subordinated to political doctrine.

Riddle. Why have The Greens earned the nickname 'water melons'?     (Green on the outside - red in the centre!)
