'Ryanair today stuck two fingers up at the Treasury's order to scrap 'hidden' credit and debit card charges by pledging to retain its £6 per ticket booking fee, branding it as an 'administrative cost'.
The Treasury announced that inflated fees, often added in the final stages of a transaction, will be banned and companies will only be able to pass on the exact processing fee charged by banks, which is often in pence rather than pounds.

But in a ruling that effectively comes down to semantics, Ryanair has said its 'administration fee' is not passed on from the banks, therefore its £6 per person per ticket charge still stands.' (Mail)

Having a rarely used death penalty makes a certain sense albeit only to a limited degree. There will always be those killers of such naked evil for whom no other disposal than loss of their own life could possibly be appropriate.
Having no death penalty 'as a principle' means that when such times inevitably arrive, you have no idea what to do with them. Donald Neilson was one such.
I may shock some readers when I say that if they had been unable to find an executioner in his case, I would have - admittedly with some degree of reluctance - volunteered for the task as I am extremely keen on justice, The Scriptures and the best interests of society.

In the 20th Century up to 1964, of all people sentenced to death in the UK - only one in 16 actually hanged. Executions were relatively few but the loss of their deterrent effect from 1965 onwards coincided with a massive rise in homicide rates as innocent people like Lesley paid the price for 'the finer feelings' of our abolitionists. The numbers of those who have died unnecessarily at the hands of murderers who felt no need for restraint, runs well into five figures.
It is also worthy of remembrance that modern medicine has saved countless lives of people attacked who would have died pre-1965. This clearly means that our huge homicide figures today conceal the true numbers of murderous attacks.

Beyond belief at Christmas: Yorks Post Letter.

AT Christmas time, Yorkshire Post readers, spare a thought for the thousands of atheists in the country; their children waking up on Christmas morning, no presents around the tree (no tree), because Santa hasn’t been to them. Mummy and daddy have told them that Jesus wasn’t born and there is no such thing as Father Christmas as he is just a figment of God’s imagination (work that one out).
No midnight mass, carols, turkey, pudding, mince pies, no lights, wine, laughing and joking, no mistletoe, no Christmas cards or screams of joy when ripping off the wrapping paper, no children showing their friends what he’s brought them, all because of mummy and daddy’s lack of knowledge and faith.
Same the rest of the year, no Mother’s Day (Mothering Sunday) when members of the breakaway church took flowers back to the mother church, no pancakes for Shrove Tuesday before Lent, no hot cross buns or Easter eggs commemorating the Resurrection, no Whitsuntide to celebrate the founding of the Christian church, no St George’s or St Patrick’s day because there is no such thing as saints.
Yes, spare a thought for them and their children, what a sad unhappy lot they must be – answers on a postcard please.

Very good points indeed! Just a couple of minor matters though:
a) Mr Platt has, perhaps somewhat disingenuously, failed to spot standard atheistic hypocrisy.
b) He may or may not be aware of the great lengths to which atheists will go in order to undermine Christian belief - even to the extent of embracing religious paganism in order to do so!
c) It is just possible - a long shot, I admit - that he has been employing irony!

Falkland Island History.

On the 6 November 1820, an American pirate named Jewett raised the flag of the United Provinces of the River Plate (a predecessor of modern-day Argentina) and claimed possession of the islands.

The last time Argentina had any degree of ownership whatsoever over those isles was in January 1833!

So their entire tenure consisted of 13 years, almost two centuries ago based on the spurious claims of a violent criminal.

England's claim pre-dated that of 'Argentina' by 55 years. If anybody at all had any earlier claim - it was in fact, the French although this was debatable and - being fair to France - I am unaware of any subsequent attempts by that nation to pretend that their original 'claim' was in any way legitimate.

What does matter however,  is that the population on the Falklands has been long established over many generations and it is that population who should make the decisions as to their future.

There is NO support for Argentina; there is much support for Great Britain. Well then. That is the end of the argument.

The problem remains that Cameron's slashing of budgets to the Armed Forces has left The Falklands extremely vulnerable to attack should the Argies re-emerge as land thieves. Let us not pretend that the Argies are unaware of this weakness.

Comparisons to spurious claims to Gibraltar by Spain are inevitable - but at least, these days are cordial.

Okay. So Whose Opinion Really Matters?

In the grand scheme of things - the answer to the above is simply - nobody's!
When you note the nature of attacks on God by: Dawkins, leftist comedians, marxist politicians, 'C list celebs', academics, Chris Hitchens and assorted atheists, they tend to target areas of which they disapprove as though that very disapproval helps to 'abolish God'.
I am deeply puzzled by the alleged logic:
'If I don't happen to like something God wants - ergo - He cannot exist. QED.'  ?????
Just how does this work? - Logically, one must first establish whether or not God exists. If He does then by definition - only His opinion could truly matter.
No matter what YOU think of a God's eye view is of no importance whatsoever. What are you but a mere speck setting up in opposition to The Almighty?
No. If you want to criticise God's opinion - logically you can only do this if He does NOT exist.

So when you use the arguments of disapproval of God's values - what you are really saying is "I don't believe in God. I am not sure why not. I cannot disprove Him so I'll criticise what He stands for. It sounds like logic and will help the unthinking share my unwarranted assertions." Hmm. Weak, innit?

Karl Smith and Jeffrey Burton had been ordered to stay at home between the hours of 9pm and 6am after they attacked a teenager outside a bar.

I'm Getting More Sensitive As I Get Older.

When I was a boy, I regularly went bush beating to earn a few shillings. For those not familiar with this job, the idea is to drive game - principally pheasants - out from hiding places into the open where they could be shot by the waiting, concealed 'guns'.
The days were often heady and exciting; often cold and generally, pretty hard work.
Over time, I began to have my doubts about driving hand reared birds to an unreasonable death at the hands of 'toffs' who had paid a small fortune for the privilege of eight totally artificial 'shoots' per year.
It was not so much that the game was blasted with shotgun pellets by expert shots but rather the vast numbers of appalling shots who wounded more birds than they killed. These would then go into cover where the majority would die a slow, painful and lingering death.

But for the last point, I would reluctantly tolerate the whole affair. I can't stand cruelty to God's creatures so I would now oppose the whole practice.

Such 'shoots' are considerably more offensive to me than the control of vermin by foxhounds where the target either escapes or is caught and dies pretty quickly.
