When I became a magistrate in 1996 we were instructed that 'theft in breach of trust' was to be PRISON.
This wretched woman in Warrington has joyfully and systematically robbed an old lady and a charity of several thousand pounds. Her diary shows her total lack of remorse.
Not jailing this appalling woman lets down justice on so many levels!
Judge Nicholas Woodward sentenced Barcock to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months. She is also subject to a six-month curfew from 6pm to 6am and a 12-month supervision order.
Just what exactly is the purpose of a curfew order here? Is she a night-roaming burglar? Why 'a supervision order'? Is she going to have the opportunity to reoffend in the immediate future?
The disposals are ALL singularly inappropriate!
Where is the punishment? Where is the deterrence? Where is the sense of justice? Why are her 'needs' being catered for ahead of 'the needs of society'?
To Judge Woodward - a well-earned LoonyTunesWatch coconut! (And YES. I am fully aware that 'guidelines' to the judiciary will have played some part in this shameful episode!)
