Lib Dems demand better Care in the Community. (News Biscuit.)
The Liberal Democrats have highlighted what they see as woefully
inadequate provision of care in the community for soon-to-be Lib Dem
ex-ministers and have demanded urgent action. Until recently ex-Lib Dem MPs were put into a special House where
they were cared for with tax-free expenses and given decorative robes to wear so
ordinary members of the public knew not to talk to them. But with that option
being gradually removed, support is needed, they argue, if they are to cope with
being of equal status with people who are able to take care of
themselves. ‘Just a small country residence and perhaps a pied à terre would
do,’ quoted one still, but only just, employed minister. ‘Plus of course someone
to feed me and show me how to use a bus.’
Fears that unsupervised Lib Dems might start gathering together
in small groups and form some sort of useful political party have been dismissed
as unlikely as phone boxes where they might once have met have all now
disappeared.
