Lepra?

A life transformed by self-care.

Dear  Friends,

Raja Bai, 51, lives with her husband, children and grandchild in Madhya Pradesh, India. Over 30 years ago she was diagnosed with lymphatic filariasis (LF), a parasitic disease that can cause swelling of body parts and alter the immune system. Sadly there is no cure for this disease.

Over the years Raja has suffered regularly from acute pains and endured social exclusion. This isolation caused her to lose motivation with her life.

Our team invited Raja to a self-care camp, where she learnt about self-care, discovering techniques for looking after her foot and how to apply bandages to relieve pain.

Since attending the camp Raja's pains have minimised and she has begun to enjoy life again. Raja often recommends the camps to others, including her husband who suffers from hydrocele, a side effect of LF.

Thanks to your support we are able to run self-care camps in India, Bangladesh and Mozambique, helping people to lower their risk of injury. Click the button below to help us to reach even more people affected by leprosy and LF:
