The undeniable truth is that this is purely the result of deforestation. The impoverished native peoples below the mountain have no other fuels than wood.

Result - deforestation and melting ice.

Soot from burning tree stumps drawing standard heat onto ice and the loss moisture in the air have caused this very specific outcome.
