Don't fall into care home trap!

When my Mum sadly died a few months ago, it was good to know that she had not seen any of her savings robbed from her for care or nursing home costs in the later years of her life.
For many the costs can be eye-watering - between £450 and £600+ per week. An aunt of mine has found this out to her cost with my uncle in care for some seven years.
If you personally have some money, or elderly friends and relatives have savings, were you aware about these health costs?

Were you also aware that, with advance planning, you may be able to pay a much fairer level of charges? I am certainly not talking about avoiding all charges which would be quite wrong!
Firstly, almost all incomings will be taken towards the costs of care and all savings over £20k - indeed, anything over £13k is vulnerable.
At some point, they will also look at your house being sold. Whether you are a couple or single TAKE ADVICE ON THIS!
As for savings, the rules at the moment do NOT allow the authorities to take money from insurance bonds.
Read that last bit again!
AND AGAIN!
It is oh so easy to put monies into such welcoming havens!
Of course, it could change in the future - but monies can be protected! TAKE SOUND FINANCIAL ADVICE.

So why have I concentrated on these matters here? - Because I meet SO many people who just do not know these facts and this could cost their families tens of thousands of pounds - totally unnecessarily.
