On being asked about great changes, Harold Macmillan allegedly said "Events, dear boy, events."
It now appears that the anger created by Mrs May and the horrendous remainers in government and opposition has altered History.
It has been proved beyond all doubt that under FPTP - there is no way that a new party can gain a genuine foothold.
I have regularly pointed out how long it took Ukip to get to their lofty position in 2014 before casting away their prodigious advantage by some of the greatest folly in political history.
My generous conclusion was that a decade might do the trick with a new party.
How I had underestimated the anger and bitterness of the 17 million+ who voted for Brexit. Wonderful!
I was - and still am - extremely concerned that the title 'Brexit Party' might take them down the same single issue route which helped to largely destroy Ukip - and this remains a concern for a General Election when the title will act as a tremendous drag-down. (Not everyone has the EU as their number one issue.)
In the meantime, IF the EU elections happen - let us see how much damage this party can do to the wretched LibLabCon & Greens.
I don't care just so long as all the important lessons have been learned.
Put simply - a party manifesto can upset the left and hard left. Fine.
BUT you cannot afford to alienate that huge portion of the electorate who have been influenced to some extent by these people; the BBC; most media; luvvies, celebs etc. That could easily number 30 - 40% of the entire electorate.
I spent a long time before the last two elections looking at how good a manifesto you could produce without alienating the non-left. That is VITAL and frankly - pretty easy.
Ukip had one such - and were too dim to spot it.
Expect black propaganda of the very worst type from all of the usual suspects.
Mind you. Do you think that Mrs May can afford EU Elections? - No.
Do you think that the EU can? - No!
Consequently, I am not ruling out a sudden use of executive power and a 'no deal' with behind-the-scenes shenanigans between May and Barnier. (Sometimes opinion polls can be work wonders.)
The Corbyn/May partnership is looking increasingly frightening, however.
The old Chinese curse was: "May you live in interesting times."
We do: we will.
