I watched the recent TV programme on this matter and as a confirmed supporter of the Francis Tumblety theory, I've had to change allegiance. The case made against Lechmere was circumstantial (no dodgy claims of DNA evidence anywhere) but nonetheless, most convincing. A Queen's Counsel thought that there was more than enough for a prosecution - although he fell short of using the word 'conviction'.
