John Hampshire RIP.

I only found out yesterday that Yorkshire CCC President, John Hampshire had died last week.
I recall three major things about him:
1) He became the first man to score a century at Lords on test debut (1969?).
2) I recall seeing him put into hospital with a broken arm at the Abbeydale Ground in Sheffield after being struck by Wayne Daniels, the Middlesex quick. The pitch was so poor that day that three Yorks batsmen were seriously injured by the West Indian International and had to be hospitalised as 90 mph balls reared up into their faces.
3) He became an umpire of genuine quality and was taken onto the International Panel.

I also recall teaching John's son at one time. If memory serves - the subject was French. Ian was a pleasant young man and I offer condolences to him and the rest of the family.
