Green Flag has recently sent me information on the
tougher penalties for speeding offences in the UK.
Whereas there is nothing substantial to gripe about
compared to the system we have at the moment - it is just the same but
tougher. I have no real problem with that.
Surely, however, this was the time to examine the silly speed
limits imposed in so very many places.
How do you justify heavy fines and three points for
someone exceeding 40 mph on a dual carriageway where there is no housing nearby?
(Ref: The Bochum Parkway - Sheffield.)
So many limits are artificial and do not command any respect.
Punishments should be for those who do wrong behind thewheel or drive
dangerously NOT for those who add a couple of mph onto an unreasonably imposed
limit.
Yet again, the motorist is seen as a milch cow by the
government.
