Letter to the Churches…8th February 2024.
No matter how we look at the state of our nation and indeed the world, I think the majority of people would say ‘It’s in a mess’. Cost of living crisis, strikes, councils bankrupt, a Government which seems to move from crisis to crisis and sadly a church which has lost its way.
No longer can we say that we live in a Christian country, though we might like to believe that. No longer can we say that the church has the respect of the majority. No longer can we say that the church is leading the way. No longer can we invite our nation to join us in prayer for the nation and expect our buildings to be full. No longer can we expect to go to church on Sunday to find it bustling with folk from the local community excited to be there.
Things have changed. What we had yesterday is not going return again.
I am hearing lots about people praying for Revival and that would be wonderful but what will it mean? I believe if we had revival tomorrow many in church would not accept it, because Revival comes on God’s terms, not the churches. God will do it His way, not mans’.
I have been looking at the books of Joel and Chronicles and in them God is showing the church what will happen if it acts upon His word.
2Chronicles 7:14… if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Joel 2…. 12 “Even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” 13 Rend your heart
and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and abounding in love,
and he relents from sending calamity.
14 Who knows? He may turn and relent
and leave behind a blessing—
grain offerings and drink offerings
for the Lord your God.
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion,
declare a holy fast,
call a sacred assembly.
16 Gather the people,
consecrate the assembly;
bring together the elders,
gather the children,
those nursing at the breast.
Let the bridegroom leave his room
and the bride her chamber.
17 Let the priests, who minister before the Lord,
weep between the portico and the altar.
Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord.
Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,
a byword among the nations.
Why should they say among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?’”
28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days. And if we look at Isaiah and Jeremiah they also call upon the people to repent.
So, with the state of the church in this nation, is it not about time it came together to seek forgiveness for allowing/not challenging the corruption within the nation. We need to seek forgiveness for the tens of thousands of unborn babies who are killed in the womb, for allowing our children to be indoctrinated by the ideals of a few re LGBTQ+. Children and staff are, in my experience, confused and living in confusion because of the lies that are being promoted within the schools. Our nation is being fed fear at every twist and turn. There is no wonder we have so many problems. I’ve said it before, in our village there are and have been Psychic evenings held in the pubs, clubs and civic centre (the thin end of the occult wedge).
Church, there is a serious need to come together, to humble ourselves, to pray, seek God's face and His forgiveness. The time for this is now, not tomorrow. We are in extremely dangerous place, where, I believe, God could quite easily sidestep the church as it is today, if it is not willing to put aside its differences and come together, that He might heal our land.
Your response would be greatly appreciated.
Yours in Christ’s service,
David Taylor,
Pastor on the street.
