Can You Help?

Gao Zhisheng

Hi All,

Eight years ago, Chinese lawyer Gao Zhisheng went missing.

His courageous human rights work made him a target of the Chinese Communist Party. Since 2006, he has been repeatedly imprisoned and tortured by the authorities and has been forcibly disappeared on multiple occasions.

Most recently, Gao disappeared on 13 August 2017. No one has seen him since. His current whereabouts remain unknown, but he is believed to be in some form of detention. His wife, Geng He, believes her husband may have been ‘persecuted to death.’

When it comes to cases of enforced disappearance, perhaps the most important thing is not letting these people be forgotten.

Your generosity allows us to persistently raise cases like Gao’s in places such as the United Nations, European Parliament and UK Parliament. Together, we are calling for answers and investigations – praying for freedom and for those responsible to be held to account.

Your gift will go twice as far because a generous supporter will match your donation pound for pound up to £10,000 until the end of June.

We also continue to stand with the families who suffer greatly, and are often targeted themselves.

Speaking in 2021, Gao’s wife said:

‘It's not just that there is no news of Gao Zhisheng, the authorities' persecution of his family has been very severe too… The ID cards of everyone in the family have been confiscated by the authorities over the past 10 years, so that they aren't able to leave their local area, let alone go looking for him.’

Enforced disappearance is without a doubt a form of emotional torture that can impact generations. It can trigger mental health issues for families and loved ones as they try to navigate – sometimes for the rest of their lives – the mental and emotional space of never knowing.

Please will you donate £4 to help bring freedom and justice to those who have been disappeared or targeted for their beliefs around the world?

Like you, we believe that everyone has the right to practise their faith without fear.

We can be like the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8), not stopping until justice is given. Will you join us in making sure these people are not forgotten?

Grace and peace,

Scot Bower
CEO

PS. Remember, your gift will be doubled if you give before 30 June!
