A teacher scammed Asda
Kirstie Reynolds used a code at self-checkout machines in the supermarket which was created to reduce the price of rotisserie chicken to one pence.
Ms Reynolds used the loophole to purchase items worth £1,030.77 in one store and £1,700 in another.
She repeated the trick on multiple occasions between February 25, 2023, and March 30, 2023.
Ms Reynolds, who worked at the Prudhoe West Academy in Northumberland, pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation at South Shields Magistrates' Court in June 2023.
She was sentenced to a 12-month community order, ordered to pay a £400 fine, £3,000 compensation to Asda, a victim surcharge of £160 and prosecution costs of £85.

Psalm 46.
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to alamoth. A song.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

To Govern - The Blob MUST Go! (Oh PLEASE Let This Article Be Correct!)
Reform UK could wipe out the so-called Blob “at a stroke” if it won power, a former Cabinet secretary has said.
Lord Case said Nigel Farage could rapidly remove the “obstacles” clogging up the Civil Service if he did his “homework” on government reform.
The former mandarin, who served five prime ministers during his time in No 10, has previously said Mr Farage should be invited for talks with civil servants to help him prepare for government.
In a new interview with The Spectator, he said he could envisage Reform unblocking the machinery of Whitehall in one fell swoop if it won the next election.
It is something Labour is vying to achieve, with Sir Keir Starmer vowing to tackle the “over-cautious and flabby” state with wholesale reform of the Civil Service.
Speaking about Reform’s prospects, Lord Case said: “If they did their homework, you could remove all of those obstacles at a stroke. It’s not just the top things, like scrapping the Office for Budget Responsibility, but here are all the people who can block planning applications for motorways or power stations.
“Here are all the statutory consultees every time you launch a new business support programme.”

Reform has pledged to use its new-found power on local councils to save taxpayers’ money by cracking down on waste and bureaucracy, with a focus on net zero and working from home.
It has led to a string of Reform recruits butting heads with the officials helping to run the party’s new town halls, prompting some frustrated staff to resign.
George Finch, the teenage leader of Warwickshire county council, clashed with his chief executive over a Pride flag, while Luke Campbell, the new mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, has become embroiled in a battle with his own staff.
In an interview with The Spectator, Mr Finch said he was told shortly after his election that his councillors would have to fall in line. He claimed the council’s chief executive told him: “I know you’re trying to get rid of me… Well, you can’t get rid of me. The way it works around here is your councillors play ball.”
The 19-year-old allegedly replied: “Are you joking? You have to work with us. It’s not the other way around. We’ve been put here by the electorate. You haven’t.”
He compared rows over diversity, equity and inclusion and net zero to the satirical TV show Yes Minister, claiming officials told him: “Are you sure this is what you want to do? Voters might not like it.”

Warwickshire county council declined to respond to the claims, according to The Spectator.
Lord Case advised Mr Farage not to assume that the lessons from local government could be transposed directly onto Westminster. Instead, he urged him to invest time in researching “what is wrong with government” before attempting to overturn the systems in Whitehall.
He said: “Politicians across the political spectrum are united in their frustration that the British system isn’t delivering. The really interesting question for Reform is will they do the homework required to understand immediately the changes they need to make in how government works?
“Nigel Farage probably never spends time at the Institute for Government – but read what the IfG says about what is wrong with government, what is wrong with the bureaucracy and the laws that have put unaccountable officials in charge of things instead of politicians.”
The Telegraph revealed that thousands more civil servants have been appointed in the past year despite Sir Keir’s pledge to fight the “flabby” state.
The Cabinet Office, headed by Pat McFadden, a key proponent of slimming down the Civil Service, announced in April that 2,100 of its jobs would be cut or moved to other parts of the Government in the next two years.
But in 2024 the department hired an additional 760 civil servants, more than a third of the number of roles they have said they will cut in the next 24 months. DT.
Oh Dear, Krish.
BBC apologises for Christian charity founder's Jenrick xenophobia comments.
Krish KandiahThe BBC pulled a Thought for the Day segment on Wednesday after a Christian charity founder accused Robert Jenrick of xenophobia.
Krish Kandiah, founder of refugee support charity The Sanctuary Foundation, used his segment to criticise the shadow justice secretary's stance on illegal immigration.
In his Thought for the Day on BBC Radio 4, Mr Kandiah quoted comments by Mr Jenrick in a recent Mail on Sunday article.
Jenrick had said, “I certainly don’t want my children to share a neighborhood with men from backward countries who broke into Britain illegally and about whom we know next to nothing.”
Responding to Jenrick's comments, Kandiah suggested that they stemmed from fear and xenophobia.
"These words echo a fear many have absorbed. Fear of the stranger. The technical name for this is xenophobia," said Mr Kandiah.
"All phobias are by definition irrational. Nevertheless, they have a huge impact. It is understandable that many people are scared by the unknown, especially if they’ve been told illegality and unfairness are part of the story.
"However, over the past year, xenophobia has fueled angry protests outside hotels housing asylum seekers, deepening divisions in our communities."
Kandiah continued, “After rigorous Home Office assessment, the majority of people arriving in small boats are found to be genuinely fleeing war, persecution, and famine – circumstances we would never wish on our own families.
"The idea that they pose a greater risk to our children than those already within our communities isn’t supported by evidence. Most crimes against children are committed not by strangers, but by people they know, often from within their own families or neighborhoods."
Mr Kandiah's comments prompted a backlash from Mr Jenrick and online commentators.
Writing on X, Mr Jenrick said: “On BBC Radio 4 this morning, listeners were told that if you’re concerned about the threat of illegal migrants to your kids, you’re racist. Wrong. You’re a good parent.”
The BBC has since apologised for Mr Kandiah's comments and removed his Thought for the Day from its on-demand BBC Sounds service, saying that it would be reinstated after the references to xenophobia were edited out.
A BBC spokesperson said: “While its reflection on fear in society from a faith perspective is broadly in line with expectations of Thought for the Day, some of the language it used went beyond that and we apologise for its inclusion.”
Roger Mahony, the head of editorial standards for BBC Radio 4, has written to Mr Jenrick to apologise, saying that “following discussion of the programme with the production team, I have concluded that, while its reflection on fear in society from a faith perspective is broadly in line with expectations of Thought for the Day, some of the language it used went beyond that”.
Mr Mahony added: “I have asked for the two references to xenophobia to be edited from the programme on BBC Sounds. Please accept my apology for their original inclusion.”
Mr Kandiah's criticisms came a day after latest Home Office data revealed that the number of Channel migrants crossing in small boats since Labour came to power has surpassed 50,000.
Mr Kandiah has been contacted for comment.
A Terrific Psalm For The Present Day.
Psalm 36.
For the director of music. Of David the servant of the Lord.
1 I have a message from God in my heart
concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:[b]
before their eyes.
2 In their own eyes they flatter themselves
too much to detect or hate their sin.
3 The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful;
they fail to act wisely or do good.
4 Even on their beds they plot evil;
they commit themselves to a sinful course
and do not reject what is wrong.
5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.
10 Continue your love to those who know you,
your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 May the foot of the proud not come against me,
nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 See how the evildoers lie fallen—
thrown down, not able to rise!
I Have Long Suspected This.

Why are flags appearing across the UK? - Maybe People Want To Rejoice In OUR Country!
The Union Flag and St George's flag - which don't often appear outside sporting, royal or military events - have been pictured in several English cities, while red crosses have been painted over white mini-roundabouts and on zebra-crossings.
So what's behind the increased number of flags, and why could it be been as controversial?
How did the recent movement start?
The flags first appeared - and were later removed - in the West Midlands and Tower Hamlets in east London, around two weeks ago.
The movement is thought to have been started - and continues to be encouraged - by the Birmingham-based groups the Weoley Warriors and Weoley Castle Warriors.
The groups describe themselves on a GoFundMe page as "proud English men" who have a "common goal to show Birmingham and the rest of the country of how proud we are of our history, freedoms and achievements".
The fundraising page, which it said, was set up to raise funds to buy flags, poles and cable ties and put them up in local areas, stands at more than £20,000.
Another group calling themselves "Operation Raise the Colours" are also encouraging the display of flags and emerged around the same time. On a Facebook page, which has more than 5,000 members, it states it wants to "bring back patriotism once and for all".
One incident of a roundabout being painted in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, is now being investigated by West Mercia Police.
Sky News contacted each group but did not receive any comment.
Why could it be seen as controversial?
Tim Marshall, a foreign affairs writer and author of best-selling book, Prisoners of Geography, told Sky News that British patriotism is usually understated, with flags only coming out on special occasions.
But in the last 20 years, "younger generations have pushed a 'with us or against us' style of debate".
He said as a result, the Union Flag, which is "meant to represent every citizen" may, at times, only be associated with "sections of the whole".
Mr Marshall added that the St George's flag was "hijacked" by the far-right in the late 1970s, who began to fly it at street level. It wasn't until the 1996 Euros football tournament when the flag returned to "being a symbol of the country".
"Now we see the return of some people being suspicious that displaying it at street level is malevolent," Mr Marshall said.
During recent anti-migrant protests in the UK, some have been seen carrying or wearing the Union Flag and St George's flag. Mr Marshall said while it is "true that flags can be flown in an aggressive and provocative manner", it is "unfair to taint everyone with that".
The groups, "Operation Raise the Colours", Weoley Warriors and the Weoley Castle Warriors maintain the movement is for patriotic purposes only.
'Every other country can do the same'
Anthony Farrell, who has pivoted a part of his business to sell flag poles, told Sky News' home news correspondent Amelia Harper that he will "fly his flag with pride".
He said he came up with the idea to fix poles to people's houses, after doing it to his own.
When asked why he thought people were getting involved in the movement, Mr Farrell said he thought it was "a little to do with immigration problems" and is a way for people to "show a bit of pride".
Livvy McCarthy, a 32-year-old bartender, in the Isle of Dogs, London, added that people should feel "proud" to fly the flag.
She told Reuters: "Every other country can do the same, so what's the problem?"
While some regard the flag as showing patriotism, one London local said it was right for flags in Birmingham and Tower Hamlets to be taken down.
She told PA the flags went up after a demonstration about asylum, adding that normally flags are used around a celebration or for bringing people together.
Stanley Oronsaye, a 52-year-old hospitality worker from Nigeria, added: "The worry is from the fact that if it escalates it can turn into something else.
"It's worrisome when... nationalism is allowed to take a different tone."
What has the government said?
Both Birmingham City Council and Tower Hamlets Council defended taking down the flags, citing health and safety obligations.
The council in Birmingham said people are free to fly or hang flags from their homes or gardens, but asked that they are "not attached to street furniture".
But it appears to have only fuelled the movement more.
When asked about the flags being taken down, Sir Keir Starmer's official spokesperson maintained that patriotism will "always be an important thing" to the prime minister.

He added that Sir Keir is "absolutely" supportive of people who put up English flags, as Downing Street would do everything a national team is playing in a tournament.
Meanwhile, Kemi Badenoch had a stronger reaction, calling the removal of flags "shameful".
The Conservative leader said the flying of English flags should be "welcomed", rather than "seen as an act of rebellion".
While Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, said his party will "never shy away from celebrating our nation".
The move even prompted reaction from US billionaire Elon Musk, who posted a picture of the St George's flag on his X account. AOL.
