"Begotten not created." What does this mean?

 "Begotten not made" means the Son (Jesus Christ) is not a created being but is of the same divine essence as the Father, sharing God's eternal, uncreated nature. 

This theological statement from the Nicene Creed affirms the Son's divine equality with the Father, as opposed to being a creature brought into existence at some point in time.
