The assaults on Grammar Schools and their eventual removal (all but for a paltry 164 survivors) was the true start of the rot in our society back in the 60s.We had a vehicle of social mobility which granted genuine opportunity to countless children like me from working class backgrounds which apprehensives X - sorry, I meant comprehensives - have never been able to match in the slightest way.
